Max heard a sound behind him and turned around. Felicia had just stepped out of the shower, wrapped in champagne-colored silk pajamas. Her long hair spilled over her shoulders, damp bangs clinging to her forehead. Her eyes were bright and clear, her cheeks tinged with a fresh, pink flush.
She walked past him, heading for Anne’s vanity.
“When did you get home?” Max asked.
“About an hour ago,” Felicia replied, her voice casual.
He watched as she started her skincare routine, dabbing essential oil onto her face, then smoothing on some cream. She picked up a facial roller and slowly worked it over her skin, sculpting her features with practiced care.
Max kept watching. Felicia tried to act like it didn’t bother her, but eventually she couldn’t take it. She set down the roller and finally turned to face him. He was sitting at the edge of the bed, eyes locked on her, not even trying to hide it.
She met his gaze head-on, not flinching. “Why are you staring at me like that?”
Max smiled. “Is it a crime to look at my wife?”
Felicia’s lips twisted, almost into a smirk. “You’re staring so hard, it’s like you’re in love with me.”
He grinned. “Isn’t it normal for me to be?”
She let out a soft, cold laugh. “Right. Men are all the same. So shallow.”
“Oh really?” Max leaned back a little, still smiling. “Then why did you fall for me in the first place? Was it my charming personality?”
At that, Felicia’s eyes darkened. She set down the roller, stood up, and shot him a look. “I must’ve been blind.”
She brushed past him, pushing his hands away, and went over to the sofa. She pulled out an LED beauty mask from her bag, put it on, and reclined back, closing her eyes as if he wasn’t even there.
A moment later, she felt the sofa shift. Max had sat down next to her. His voice was low and calm. “Anne definitely takes after you, you know.”
Felicia didn’t move, didn’t even open her eyes.
“She loves getting all dressed up, just like her mom. Won’t leave the house unless she looks perfect. But at least she won’t freeze for fashion the way you do.”
Even in winter, Felicia never let the cold stop her from dressing stylishly.
