The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback novel Chapter 410

Dinner finally wrapped up.

Gavin held Felicia’s hand as they stepped out of the restaurant. As soon as they were outside, he turned to her with a hopeful smile. “Want to go back inside for a while?”

Felicia slipped her hand out of his and started walking ahead. “I should head home.”

Gavin just grinned and caught up with her, matching her pace.

He drove her back. When they got to the house, only Luke was home. Jeremy and the others hadn’t come back yet.

Luke noticed the bouquet of roses in her arms. His brow furrowed. “Who gave you those?”

“Gavin,” Felicia answered.

Luke already knew she’d never say yes to Gavin, but he still couldn’t help himself. “Why’d he give you flowers?”

Felicia shrugged. “Just for fun, I guess.”

Luke let it go and didn’t ask any more.

Felicia’s phone buzzed. She glanced down. Max was calling.

Luke caught the hesitation on her face. “Is that Max?”

Felicia nodded. She took a breath, then picked up, her voice calm and flat. “Hello?”

Max’s deep voice came through, his tone as cold and bossy as ever. “Have you decided when you’re coming back?”

“I’ve got my own plans,” Felicia replied.

Silence stretched out between them.

She was about to hang up when Max spoke again, his words cutting. “Don’t fool yourself into thinking Gavin is actually serious about you. Compared to the girls he’s been with, you’re nothing.”

Felicia’s grip tightened on the phone. She let out a bitter laugh. “I know exactly where I stand. You don’t need to call just to remind me. Since I’m so beneath you, why don’t we hurry up and finalize the divorce? I’m not worthy of being your spouse, right Max? Wouldn’t want to embarrass you.”

Max’s voice dropped even lower. “Felicia, I’m trying to have a real conversation with you.”

“Lina?”

“Evelynn, are you leaving for home tomorrow?” Lina asked.

Felicia nodded, even though Lina couldn’t see her. “Yeah. Heading back.”

“I quit Northstar Dynamics today,” Lina said.

Felicia remembered Lina mentioning it before. Lina’s husband was being transferred to Australia, and she was going with him. Plus, she didn’t get along with the new management anyway.

For a second, Felicia didn’t know what to say. All she felt was a heavy, bittersweet ache.

They’d worked so hard to build this company together. In just a few years, everything had changed. Now they were all going their own ways.

“We probably won’t see each other much anymore. Do you have time for one last dinner tonight?”

Felicia smiled, her voice softer. “Of course. I’d love that.”
