He’d seen plenty of girls like her before. Gorgeous, sure, but deep down, just looking for a man to spoil them. Nothing but arm candy.
He honestly hadn’t realized Andrea was the type to break up someone’s marriage. And the way she acted, like she was proud of it, was unbelievable.
Gavin gave her a lazy smirk. “What’s with that look, Miss Curtis? Worried someone’s going to snatch your man?”
Andrea’s face froze for a split second. She could feel the contempt in Gavin’s eyes now, so different from how he used to look at her. She was sure Felicia must have said something to turn him against her.
He went on, his voice light but sharp. “But you really don’t need to worry, Miss Curtis. No one wants your man right now.”
Max shot Gavin an icy stare. Gavin just shrugged and met it straight on. “What? Did I say something that isn’t true?”
Max’s voice cooled. “Maybe you should find something better to do.”
Gavin immediately fell quiet, a little more alert.
Max turned away, guiding Andrea into the restaurant.
Darin glanced at Felicia and Gavin, then followed them inside.
Gavin nudged Felicia. “Come on, let’s go in too.”
They found a table, a few seats away from Max and his group.
A waiter came over with menus.
“You pick,” Felicia said.
Gavin grinned. “Don’t mind if I do.”
Felicia smiled, easy and warm. “Just order whatever you want.”
Once they’d ordered, Gavin leaned forward, suddenly earnest. “Evelynn, you always set your moral bar so high. You are married to a man who doesn’t care about you. You could date whoever you want. Honestly, how is your life any different from someone who’s single all these years?”
Felicia gave a small laugh. “You’re not totally wrong.”
Gavin’s eyes sparkled. “Then how about giving me a shot? Let me show you what it’s really like to fall in love. I swear, my whole world would revolve around you.”
Felicia sipped her juice, unfazed. “I’m not interested in a long-distance thing.”
Max, Darin, and Andrea all watched.
Andrea knew Gavin’s type. Normally, girls chased after him, not the other way around. Seeing Gavin go all out for Felicia made jealousy flare up in her chest. What did this plain-looking woman have that she didn’t?
Felicia reached out, quickly taking the roses from him.
Gavin leaned in, so close their faces nearly touched, and snapped a selfie. Since their backs were to the other tables, no one could see what Felicia was really feeling.
When he finished, his eyes were shining with satisfaction.
The rest of the restaurant burst into applause.
Gavin stood up and announced, “Dinner’s on me tonight, everyone!”
The cheers and congratulations got even louder.
Darin glanced over at Max.
Max just looked away, grabbed his wine glass, and took a slow sip, his face unreadable.
