The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback novel Chapter 386

“What’s all this for?”

Holden grinned. “Chasing after a girl, obviously.” He strolled over to Felicia, coming around her desk until he stood right in front of her. Her eyes were wary, and he let out a soft laugh. “Relax. Even after what you did to me, Evelynn, I never held it against you.”

He set the roses on her desk, leaned in with one hand braced against the edge, getting a little too close.

His scent hit her, a smell that made her skin crawl.

Holden’s eyes caught the light, something dark flickering there. His voice dropped, rough and low. “I can’t help it. I just love you that much.”

A split second later, a sharp smack broke the silence.

Felicia had grabbed a book and smacked it right across his face. She shot to her feet, putting space between them. “Stay away from me!”

Holden straightened slowly, tongue pressed to his cheek. He wiped at the spot where the book had caught his skin, noticing a thin streak of blood on his fingers. Instead of getting angry, he just smiled, his eyes glinting with something cold and dangerous.

He stepped closer.

Felicia tried to back away.

Too late. His hand closed tight around her wrist. He yanked her forward, pulling her right up against him.

“Let go of me!”

Holden’s other hand caught the back of her head.

Right as he started to lower his face toward her, the sound of a book snapping shut rang out, slicing through the tension.

Holden froze and looked toward the couch, where Max was sitting.

Max’s eyes flicked past Felicia’s pale, frightened face and landed on Holden. “You really don’t have any class,” he said, voice flat as ever.

Felicia took her chance, shoving Holden away and hurrying out to call for security.

Holden watched the door for a moment, then shrugged, walked around the desk, and sat down across from Max. He pulled a cigarette case from his pocket and held one out.

Max headed for the door.

Just then, security guards came rushing in. When they saw Max, they moved to block his way. “Are you the one causing trouble here?”

Max looked at them, his eyes cold and sharp enough to make them hesitate. “You’ve got the wrong guy,” he said. “It’s him over there. Maybe you should take him to the police.”

Holden let out a dismissive snort.

The guards shifted their gaze to Holden, still sitting there.

Max walked out of the office.

By now, everyone at Northstar Dynamics was glancing over, confused about what was going on.

Max scanned the crowd, but Felicia was nowhere in sight.
