The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback novel Chapter 385

Lina was just about to step into the office when she nearly bumped into a man coming out. She jumped, caught herself, and quickly greeted him. “Mr. Hawthorne.”

Max just nodded and walked right past her into the office. Lina kept her head down and hurried off.

Felicia watched Max come in, a frown forming on her face. He walked straight to her desk and stopped, looking down at her with a steady gaze. “You’re an adult,” he said, his voice calm but hard. “Is this really how you think a professional should behave?”

The way he spoke made it clear he was lecturing her, like he was above it all.

“Do you think Northstar Dynamics belongs to you alone? That you don’t need to care about the people working beside you? Is it really okay to just do whatever you want without worrying about how it affects them?”

Felicia understood exactly what he meant.

He was threatening her. He could easily make her pay for what she’d done, and he wouldn’t hesitate to drag the whole company down with her if he wanted.

She forced a smile. “Mr. Hawthorne, are you actually coming here to threaten me personally? Anyone else would think Northstar Dynamics must be some big deal.”

He shot back, “Are you always this rude?”

Felicia leaned back in her chair and met his eyes. “Sorry, I just don’t see how your bossy attitude is supposed to lead to a normal conversation.”

Max stared at her, his dark eyes unwavering.

Suddenly, he turned and walked to the sofa, sitting down as if he owned the place. “Make me a coffee,” he said, acting like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Felicia’s eyes narrowed, her mood turning colder.

He looked at her again. “You expect me to just wait here doing nothing?”

Not bothering to argue, Felicia pressed the intercom and asked someone to bring coffee.

Then he said, in that irritatingly calm voice, “I only drink coffee that’s freshly ground.”

“We don’t have any,” Felicia replied, her tone flat.

Max’s eyes landed on the coffee machine in the corner. “So that’s just for decoration?”

Did he really expect her to make him coffee?

“Sorry, I’m busy,” she replied, not even looking up from her work.

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

“Come in,” she called.

The receptionist walked in, her eyes landing on Max before turning to Felicia. “Evelynn, there’s someone here to see you.”

Felicia looked confused. “Who is it?”

Before the receptionist could answer, a man stepped in, carrying a huge bouquet of roses.

The moment she saw him, Felicia’s expression darkened.

It was Holden. He held the roses in one arm, his face strikingly good-looking but cold, his dark eyes sharp and unreadable.

Felicia’s grip tightened around her pen.

Holden caught sight of Max sitting calmly on the sofa with his coffee. He paused, then smiled, a hint of challenge in his eyes. “What a coincidence. You’re here too.”

Max’s attention shifted to the roses in Holden’s hand.
