Felicia's phone buzzed. It was a call from Colton.
"Hello, Dad."
At the sound of those words, Darin's pupils visibly contracted.
"Felicia, did Darin go looking for you today?" Colton asked.
"Mm, he's here. We're having dinner with Jeremy and Heather."
"Pass the phone to him."
"Alright." Felicia handed the phone across the table to Darin. "Dad wants to talk to you."
Darin looked at the phone, reached out to take it, and turned slightly away as he answered. "Dad."
"Darin, why didn't you let Savannah know you were going to Cloudville?" Colton's tone was stern. "You should have at least told her."
"I'm sorry, Dad. It was thoughtless of me," Darin replied sincerely.
"What you did was not okay," Colton said. "Savannah told you she wanted to visit Felicia with you. You shouldn't be apologizing to me. You need to apologize to Savannah." He paused. "And stop being so rigid. Loosen up a bit. It's not like you're some untouched maiden." The description was courtesy of Ava, who had just said it out loud.
Hearing his father's words, the tips of Darin's ears flushed slightly red. "I understand, Dad."
"You'd better. Make sure you apologize properly to Savannah. You should learn a thing or two from Greg. He's not nearly as stubborn and inflexible as you are."
Darin handed the phone back to Felicia. The call hadn't ended yet. "Dad," she said.
"Felicia, you really need to talk some sense into your brother," Colton said. "Look at his age. Even if he doesn't settle down immediately, he needs to put it on the agenda. Savannah is such a wonderful girl. We can't let your brother push her away."
"I know, Dad," Felicia replied.
After they finished chatting, Felicia handed the phone to Anne. Anne chatted with her grandfather for a bit before Colton said, "Anne, you have to convince your uncle to hurry up and give us a pretty little girl just like you. Then you'll have a little sister."
