"Audrey, there's no need to worry. I can handle this. Megan isn't the same person she used to be, but am I still the same person I was?"
Nolan then pointed at Verdant Serenity, which was in Audrey's arms. Chuckling, he said, "Do you really think I intentionally won the bid for Verdant Serenity without paying for it because the Baxter family owed me a favor?
"Do you really believe Megan when she said my art sold for a hundred million dollars just because the Baxter family wanted to keep their reputation?"
Audrey stared at Nolan, unsure how to respond. The item was right in her arms, and the fact was that it was auctioned for over 60 million dollars. It was also a fact that Nolan's art had sold for a staggering hundred million dollars.
Having witnessed it all firsthand, Audrey felt as though she had lost her grip on reality as everything was all too surreal for her to process.
She wanted to believe Nolan, but she couldn't tell what the truth was. The situation was just too unbelievable for her to comprehend.
But if she didn't believe him, was she supposed to believe Megan instead? That didn't make sense, either.
Nolan chuckled softly at Audrey's silence. "My art wasn't worth that much indeed. If it had been in a regular auction, it would've been lucky to sell for a few thousand dollars.
"The real value lay in my promise," he told Audrey the truth with a smile.
Audrey was taken aback as she stared at Nolan. "Your promise? But how could your promise be worth that much?"
Nolan patted Audrey's shoulder and continued walking. "That's because my promise can save lives!
"I understand now, Nolan. You possess abilities far beyond what most people could ever imagine. Why didn't you tell Megan about it? I'm sure she would never have left you had she known."
Nolan's remarkable abilities could bring endless opportunities and wealth. If Megan had known the full extent of them, she would have never left Nolan.
Nolan sneered. "I didn't plan on keeping it from her. However, the moment I got out of prison, I didn't even get the chance to see her before Jeanne and a lawyer delivered the divorce papers.
"Tell me. What's the point of saying anything after that?"
Nolan found it laughable. He had been fresh out of prison and hadn't even made it home when Megan's people intercepted him, pushing for a divorce. Just why was she in such a rush to get the divorce?
