Audrey could no longer hold back her emotions.
She looked at Nolan with reddened eyes and said with choked sobs, "Nolan, I know you're the best, so Megan would definitely regret leaving you. I just didn't think she would regret it so soon.
"But it's alright, Nolan. I will support you, no matter the choice you make. I know you haven't forgotten about Megan and still love her.
"That's why I will definitely give you my blessing if you want to get back together with her. I just hope you will take better care of yourself this time.
"After all, she's no longer the person she used to be. I'm afraid she might hurt you again."
Tears streamed down Audrey's cheek as she spoke. It was as if she had already lost Nolan.
Nolan was deeply touched by Audrey's kindness. Even now, she was still putting him first, as if she could give up everything just to see him happy. She was such a kind-hearted person with pure feelings.
Gently ruffling Audrey's hair, Nolan said with a smile, "Audrey, do you really think I'm that easy to take advantage of?
"Yes. I admit that I once loved Megan deeply, and that's why I tolerated her and her family, no matter how they treated me.
"But I've come to realize many things since I came back and have let go of my feelings. I may not be ready to start a new relationship just yet, but I won't repeat the same mistakes.
"Besides, do you really think Megan regrets her actions and wants to start over with me? Do you truly think she is being genuine?"
"Is it really okay, Nolan? You could be in danger if Megan is determined to go after you. I know you might have ties to the Baxter family, but Megan is not someone to be underestimated, really.
"She's had a smooth journey in her career over the years, and no one knows how many people have been supporting her behind the scenes. If she sets her sights on someone… I-I'm still worried.
Audrey's concerns weren't unfounded. Many people had refrained from crossing Megan, even when they knew Megan wasn't any more powerful than them.
That was because those who had tried ended up with disastrous consequences. It was as if there was an invisible hand protecting her, preventing anyone from harming her, and no one knew who those hands belonged to.
However, Audrey's worry was misplaced, as the invisible hand that once protected Megan was now gently ruffling her hair.
