It wouldn’t be long now. That man would be hers. Whether he lived or died, that was up to her.
And the girl... well, she’d be lying on some cold lab table soon, waiting to be cut open.
Aloys kept his eyes locked on the two of them, his face dark. This was The Gilded Wheel. His place, his rules, his men everywhere. Yet instead of worrying about how to stay alive, these two were just… chatting? What was even going on?
As Aloys tried to think of a way to grab the gun from Anthony, Anthony suddenly pulled back, tossed the gun onto the table like it was nothing, and reached into his suit jacket.
Every bodyguard in the room tensed up, not sure what he’d pull out next.
Anthony pulled out… a lollipop.
Aloys stared.
Rena stared.
Everyone stared.
Was this guy serious? Did he not get that this was a life-or-death situation? People had guns drawn, and he was just, what, having a snack?
Anthony took his time unwrapping the candy, handed it to Charlotte, then shrugged off his jacket and laid it carefully over a chair.
“Sit down for a bit. I’ll get your bracelet back.”
Charlotte glanced at the table, blinked, and popped the lollipop into her mouth. She started to say something. “Actually…”
“Enough!” Rena snapped, her voice slicing through the tension. “Dad, arrest them already!”
Mr. X was unarmed. Dad wasn’t in danger anymore. Now was the perfect time to take them down. She was so done with that woman.
Aloys didn’t reply right away. He hesitated, thinking. Mr. X had just handed over his weapon. He’d given up control, just like that… Something was off. Really off.
