The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1001

Timid? Scared? When those words came up, Jackson, Adonis, and Hans all looked over at Charlotte, who was busy sucking on a lollipop. She was sprawled back in her chair, legs long and crossed like she had all the time in the world. Her hat was pulled low, hiding most of her face, but you could see the curve of her lips, just a hint of a cold smirk.

Anthony was holding one of her hands, while her other hand tapped the table, fingers drumming out a lazy rhythm. Under the harsh white lights, her mood was impossible to miss. She looked annoyed, maybe even a little dangerous.

Jackson said nothing. Scared? Not her. Adonis just stared. Timid? Not a chance. Hans was lost for words. Charlotte, timid? Nobody could honestly say that with a straight face.

Noticing the three of them gawking, Charlotte bit down on her candy and tilted her chin up, clearly annoyed. “Keep staring and I’ll take your eyes out,” she warned.

All three dropped their heads right away. Yeah, threatening to gouge out their eyes... that was some “timid” behavior.

“Don’t get mad,” Anthony said softly. He fastened her bracelet, kissed the back of her hand, and looked into her eyes. “The air in here sucks. Want to wait outside, or come with me?”

Charlotte squeezed his fingers, not saying a word, but her meaning was clear.

“Alright, just sit for a bit.” Anthony smiled, gave her cheek a gentle pat, and looked around at the bodyguards who were still aiming their guns. His gaze turned icy. “Aloys, are you deaf?”

Aloys went pale, his fist tightening. Marcia was smart, and she was neck-deep in genetic mutation research. She was too important. Of everyone in this family, she was the one they couldn’t afford to lose.

“Lower your guns. Move to the door.” His voice was cold and clipped.
