Corvin stood in the valley, breathing hard.
He had won.
But not cleanly.
Sixty-two moves.
A Golden Immortal Level One cultivator had forced him to fight for sixty-two moves and had drained almost thirty percent of his spiritual power.
That price was far beyond what he had expected.
"Jared."
His voice was rough. "You lost. Keep your promise and let me leave."
Jared remained on one knee.
He wiped blood from the corner of his mouth, looked up, and smiled faintly.
"I lost?"
Then he asked, "Clan Chief Skyreach, are you sure you did not forget something?"
Corvin's brows tightened.
"What did I forget?"
Jared did not answer.
He only glanced toward Master Veridian.
No words were needed.
Master Veridian understood at once.
"Hey, Golden bird! Take my palm!"
He shot out of the crowd as a gray blur.
Blue-green light gathered in his palm and drove straight toward Corvin's back like a bolt of lightning.
Corvin's face changed.
He turned to defend.
Too late.
Master Veridian was fast, and Corvin had just spent sixty-two moves fighting Jared. Nearly thirty percent of his spiritual power was gone. His reactions and defenses had both slowed.
The blue-green palm print struck him hard in the chest.
Bang.
Corvin flew backward and smashed into the cliff. Long cracks spread through the black stone, and loose rocks rattled down.
Golden blood seeped from the corner of his mouth.
His robe split across the chest, revealing burned flesh under the blue-green glow.
"You..."
His voice shook with rage. "Despicable. Did you not say this was one-on-one?"
Jared stood and brushed dust from his robe.
"Clan Chief Skyreach, I said, 'If you defeat me, I will let you go.' The condition was that you had to defeat me first. Have you defeated me?"
Corvin's face turned livid.
"You clearly lost."
"Did I concede?"
Jared shook his head. "I asked, 'I lost?' That was a question. It was not surrender."
Corvin's lips trembled.
He wanted to refute him, but no words came.
Jared had indeed never admitted defeat.
He had dropped to one knee and spoken those words like a comment, not a concession.
"You tricked me."
Corvin's voice trembled with fury.
Jared shrugged.
"So what? When you brought people here to ambush me, were you not trying to trick me?"
Corvin's eyes flooded with killing intent.
But he no longer had the strength to attack Jared.
Master Veridian's strike had badly injured him. Added to the energy he had consumed fighting Jared, he could now use only around sixty percent of his full strength.
Master Veridian, on the other hand, was still a peak Golden Immortal Level Eight expert in perfect condition.
"Kid, your opponent is me now."
Master Veridian rushed forward again.
Corvin gritted his teeth and had no choice but to meet him.
Golden light and blue-green light crashed through the valley with deafening force.
This battle between two peak Golden Immortal Level Eight experts was far more terrifying than Jared's exchange with Corvin.
