Half an hour later, they arrived at the movie theater. It was a weekday, so there weren't many people.

Nathan held the movie tickets, then spotted the concession stand. "Do you want popcorn?"

Ivy had only been to a movie once, when she was very young. She had come with her parents.

Tabitha had held her hand. She remembered seeing the popcorn and tugging Edric's sleeve, saying, "Dad, I want popcorn."

Edric had said, "I'll get it."

He went to buy it, but just then his phone rang. He answered, ran off, and never came back. He left her and Tabitha there alone.

Later, she learned that it was the day his mistress gave birth to Kate.

Looking at the popcorn stand now pulled her straight back to that memory, the deepest wound in her childhood.

Nathan let go of her hand and walked off to buy popcorn.

Two girls walking by spotted him and whispered excitedly, "Look, he's hot!"

"Forget it. He's clearly buying popcorn for his girlfriend."
