**Chapter 1112**
Ivy’s smile abruptly faltered, her expression freezing in place as she caught sight of Nathan. It became glaringly obvious that he had been there for quite some time, a silent observer, taking in the entire scene as though it were a captivating performance unfolding before his eyes.
For a brief moment, her thoughts scattered like leaves in a storm, racing back through the words she had just spoken. She had openly declared that Nathan was handsome, brimming with energy, and capable of going seven rounds a night.
Well, if she were to be honest with herself, none of those statements were untrue. She had merely been offering a compliment, albeit a rather bold one.
With a measured grace, Ivy allowed her lips to curve into a composed smile and approached him, her heart racing slightly. “What brings you here?” she inquired, her tone light yet curious.
Nathan had been keenly attuned to every flicker of emotion that had danced across her face moments earlier. Just a heartbeat ago, she had been using their connection as bait to provoke Kate, and now, seeing him standing there, she had frozen, a wave of embarrassment washing over her. But, true to her nature, she quickly regained her composure, slipping back into her usual calm demeanor as if nothing had happened.
She certainly had a talent for theatrics.
A faint smile graced Nathan’s lips. “You were gone for quite a while, so I thought I’d come check on you,” he replied, his voice warm.
“I’m perfectly fine,” Ivy assured him, her voice smooth and unruffled. “Just chatting a bit. I was about to head back anyway. Shall we go?”
At that moment, Kate’s eyes lit up with excitement upon spotting Nathan.
“Hey, Nathan!” she called out, her voice dripping with sweetness.
Nathan turned his gaze towards her, his expression neutral.
Kate pouted, her demeanor shifting to one of faux helplessness. “I don’t have anywhere to stay tonight. Can I crash with you and Ivy? She already said no, but it’s really dangerous for me to be out alone.”
Her tone was almost syrupy sweet, designed to elicit sympathy.
Ivy glanced up at Nathan, her heart racing as she awaited his response.
After all, the house belonged to him. If he insisted on inviting Kate into their home, Ivy would find herself with no choice but to move out. The thought caused a flicker of dread to pass through her. And if she were to be honest, she had no real understanding of Nathan’s feelings towards Kate.
Kate embodied everything that typically drew men in—she was attractive, charming, and had never been short of admirers. What if Nathan found himself captivated by her as well? What if he felt a twinge of pity and gradually fell for her charms?
The uncertainty gnawed at Ivy, making her realize just how little she truly knew about Nathan. She held her breath, waiting with bated breath for his answer.
