The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 141

The man frowned, and the look he gave Lorraine wasn't friendly at all. "I'm warning you, don't meddle in this. Mr. Joplin is rich; why can't he give me some of his money?"

He then placed the knife on the child's neck.

The child in his arms did not react as if it were a dummy. He must have blacked out after this man used some methods.

"Remove the cloth from the child first; it's very hot, and he might get a heatstroke."

Lorraine just wanted to see if the boy was Jonas. If not, then she could only wait until the cops were here before she continued looking for him.

"If he's so delicate, why come to an amusement park? He should've just stayed home and remained a rich noble kid," the man spat with vicious resentment.

It was clear he harbored hatred for the wealthy, especially children like Jonas.

"Put the child down. Just tell me how much you need or what you need and I'll try my best to help you. Don't hurt the child, please."

The person stubbornly remained the knife on Jonas.

Lorraine took a deep breath, afraid that the man might accidentally stab Jonas.

"Jonas? Where's Jonas?"

Hearing the voice behind, Lorraine seemed to grasp at a lifeline.

I saw her waving at me, and almost instantly, my eyes landed on the man standing in front of her.

He was holding a knife.

I forced myself to run forward despite feeling like I might collapse at any moment. I called out, "Who are you? Put the child down."

The man's eyes were filled with hatred. I couldn't recall having an enemy who looked like him.

"Stay back, stay back!" he yelled as he took a step closer to Jonas.

Nothing was more important than Jonas' life.

I could even give him the company if he asked for it now, but I didn't think he'd have the guts to make that demand.

That person was stunned. "Fifty million?"

I nodded. "Yes, 50 million. That's enough to last a few generations of your family. As long as you give me my child back, you can have it."

Afraid that he wouldn't believe me, I raised my hand. "Don't worry, I won't call the cops. I only want my child."

People like him had the guts to extort money but feared not being able to live long enough to spend it. When he heard me say I wouldn't call the police, his tense body noticeably relaxed.

"What if you report me afterward? Trying to screw me over?"

"My child's life is in your hands. I wouldn't dare to call the police afterward. Not only that, I'll delete all the amusement park's surveillance footage. No one will know you were ever here. Will that satisfy you?"
