I tried to appeal to his conscience.
He looked to be around my age and should also have children.
"I don't know how old you are, but you must have your reasons for doing this, and you probably have children as well. Think about your kids and give my son back to me."
I watched as his brows slowly relaxed and the corner of his mouth twitched. I continued to persuade him.
"I'll have my assistant prepare the money right now. You just put the knife down."
"You want me to put the knife down? Then you'll catch me."
I saw his gaze grow agitated again, and I almost wanted to slap myself.
Lorraine was beside me. When she saw his agitated look, she said, "We can also be your hostages. You can do whatever you want as long as you don't hurt the child."
I glanced at Lorraine. She was frowning, appearing more nervous than Yvonne, who was the mother.
"I'll prepare a car for you." I looked at the man as I tried to satisfy all his requests. "Then, you can leave."
Hearing me say that, the man moved the knife away from Jonas' body.
"Faster."
"I'll prepare it for you immediately."
The man finally let his guard down.
Murphy was quick as well, and in less than 20 minutes, he had withdrawn the money from the bank.
"This is enough for you to live on."
"Open it and show me."
I opened the case as he asked. I saw his eyes light up, but his expression grew increasingly ugly.
"I'll deliver the money to you, and you give me the child back." I walked toward him with the money in hand, but he stopped me.
"Let her come."
His gaze fell on Lorraine.
"She's a woman..."
"Let her come."
This man was clever. He knew he couldn't overpower me, so he had Lorraine deliver it.
"Let's change it to someone else."
"You'd better not try anything. If I find out you have other intentions, I won't let you off."
Lorraine looked at the child and swallowed. "What else could I possibly do?"
There was at least a distance of 20 yards between Lorraine and me. This man was clearly afraid we'd rush forward. Anyone capable of carrying out a kidnapping in an amusement park was very clever.
He chose to target my child, which meant he had been planning it for at least a month.
"Go quickly."
I could barely hear what they were saying.
Watching Lorraine walk toward that man, my heart was filled with unease. She placed the case of money into the car and opened her hands. "Can I have the child now?"
She looked at Jonas, who still hadn't reacted, seriously.
"Get in the car."
Lorraine and I both froze. Was he planning to change hostages?
"Did you hear me? I said, get in the car."
"Wait."
