I knew Lorraine was comforting me, but it was much better than having no leads.
I turned to leave before she could bandage my wound, but she stopped me.
"You can't hurt yourself no matter what. Jonas is still waiting for you. If he sees you like this, he's not going to be able to accept it."
I nodded in response. "I was too anxious just now. It won't happen again."
I couldn't let Jonas' mental burden increase. Lorraine was right. If he saw me like this, it would only make him worry more.
However, where was he?
I imagined the places Jonas might have gone while watching the number of people in the amusement park dwindle. My heart grew heavier with every passing moment.
Could Jonas have been kidnapped? Or drugged?
Whatever the reason, he should still be in this amusement park, right? But what if he wasn't here?
If he wasn't…
I bit my lip, forcing myself to stay alert. Having run too hard just now, my head throbbed painfully. Leaning against the wall, I forced myself to calm down as I bit my lip hard. I could even taste a hint of blood.
"Jonas?" My voice was growing weaker. This was a familiar feeling; I had felt the same way when I fainted last time.
No, I could not allow myself to collapse now.
I had to find Jonas.
…
After parting ways, Lorraine and I kept walking in opposite directions.
We had tried every method imaginable, cleared out all the people from the amusement park, and even had announcements blaring from the loudspeakers.
Yet Jonas was nowhere to be found, which meant his situation was extremely dangerous. Either he was lost and couldn't find the meeting point or he had been abducted.
The youngest member of the Joplin family was worth a staggering amount of money, so he would make an irresistible target for someone seeking a lifetime of wealth.
Lorraine seized the opportunity to close the distance. The man was unable to flee while carrying the child.
He pulled a knife from his pocket and snarled, "Stay back!"
He was wearing a mask and a hat, making it impossible for Lorraine to see his face.
"Put the child down, and we can talk this out," Lorraine said, trying to steady her voice.
"Talk it out? If I put the kid down, will you really talk things out with me?"
Lorraine couldn't see the child's face clearly, but her guts told her that it was Jonas.
She took a deep breath as she tried to reason with the man. "Is this child Jonas? How long have you been following him?"
If the culprit had chosen this timing to kidnap Jonas, it meant that he had been following Jonas around.
This wasn't his first time stalking Jonas either.
