The Great Medical Saint (Matthew) novel Chapter 1054

Soren simply replied, "It's just a bottle of liquor. It's not as if you'd gain anything out of it by keeping it away. Besides, it'd serve its purpose if I successfully get an apprenticeship with the Evanses."

Right as he finished speaking, a car stopped by the side, and a man got out of the car. The man headed toward the Evans residence, and Soren thought he was one of the Evanses who had just returned.

As such, Soren skipped up to him excitedly and offered a stick of tobacco. "Hello. Mind having a smoke?"

Matthew shook his head and said, "I don't smoke."

Facing such a response, Soren retracted his arm awkwardly and said, "You're one of the Evanses, right? Could I trouble you with something?

"I'm Soren Emery, and I'm from Lambda City as well. I have great admiration for the Evanses and I'm here to seek out a mentor. Please take me to see Dylan… I mean, Mr. Evans."

Matthew responded coldly, "You misunderstood. I'm not from the Evans family."

Soren was a little disappointed to hear that, and he soon sized up Matthew. The latter was wearing a short-sleeved shirt with a logo Soren had never seen before—it was obvious it was some no-name brand.

Thinking back to the smoke he had offered, Soren said irritably, "Why didn't you say so earlier? Did you really think of yourself as one of the Evanses? Who are you to have a smoke with me? Seriously…"

Just as he finished speaking, he walked toward the gate of the Evans residence.

Meanwhile, Matthew paused as he stared at Soren's back after having been scolded. He was a little confused.

Clearly, he was just here to deal with the Evanses. He had never crossed paths with Soren before, so why did the latter act as if Matthew had offended him?

But Matthew didn't take it to heart. After all, there were all kinds of people in the world—some would offer goodwill, while others would act without regard to how their words would affect others.

It was better to distance yourself from people of the latter category. There was no need to get upset and argue with a stranger over a few words anyway.

Soren pressed the doorbell, and a man who appeared to be in his 40s or 50s opened the door. "Who are you looking for?"

Jareth raised a brow. It was obvious that he wasn't too pleased with Matthew calling Dylan by his first name.

When Soren saw how Matthew came empty-handed, he said with a hint of contempt, "Don't you know the rules? You've got to bring some gifts if you want to see Mr. Evans. He couldn't be bothered with you otherwise."

Matthew was annoyed. "How'd you know, huh? You're not Dylan, are you?"

Soren replied scornfully, "Don't even bother hoping when you don't know how things work."

He had initially thought that Matthew was here to seek out Dylan as a mentor as well, but Soren refused to become an apprentice under Dylan with Matthew now.

By the side, Jareth seemingly wanted to speak, but he decided against it and gestured at Matthew impatiently. "Oh, just come on in."

Right as he said that, he led both of them inside.
