Lorenzo looked up at the approaching car, its headlights cutting through the darkness like twin flashlights. The bright beams moved swiftly across the dark wilderness.
"He's finally here to meet his death," Lorenzo muttered impatiently.
"Thank you for your patience, Mr. Connolly," Cameron said in a fawning tone.
"Killing someone is hardly work. It's effortless," Lorenzo replied coldly.
Cameron smiled and said, "Yes. For an expert like you, it is indeed a piece of cake."
Just then, Lorenzo's stomach growled loudly, and he placed his hand over his empty belly. After training, his body always needed immediate nourishment, and his hunger made him speak faster.
"Killing him will be simple, but he's wasted so much of my time. For that, I'll make his death especially painful!"
Cameron trembled with excitement as he watched the car approach. The closer it got, the nearer their revenge came. Finally, he could avenge his family.
The car entered Delisnora Bay and slowed down, eventually stopping behind the three parked vehicles. Dylan stepped aside to avoid the glaring headlights, squinting at the car windows.
He had always wondered whom Lorenzo planned to kill as his stepping stone to becoming a cultivator. As a member of Lambda City's premier family, he was curious about which Grant, besides Matthew, was also a cultivator.
Matthew frowned, scanning the area for the trap he was sure existed. The only unusual thing was the grove of broken bamboo stalks, oddly snapped at about five feet up—an unusual height since bamboo was strongest at its base.
He studied the unusual breaks in the bamboo, which he realized were not cut by any blade. He started walking toward Matthew and spat.
Lorenzo said, "You've wasted three hours of my time today. Three hours! And if there's one thing I hate, it's people wasting my time."
"Who are you?" Matthew asked, studying the unfamiliar figure in the headlights.
"My name is Lorenzo Connolly," he replied, continuing his approach.
