"Not much. He just told me to execute the plan we set up," Harold replied.
He let out a heavy sigh.
"Aurora really has a death wish, fueled by pure delusion.
Back in the day, Mr. Gardner completely dismantled her. If he hadn't backed off and left her for Stella to deal with—since they're related—she would have been ruined years ago.
And now, she actually tried to exploit his hypnosis and con him to his face?
Does she really think he's that gullible?"
Jake waved off the Aurora issue, far more focused on the bigger picture. He frowned thoughtfully.
"Do you think the boss is actually starting to remember things?
Why else would he suddenly start tangling with the Williams family again?"
"He went to Solmaris," Harold reasoned. "Running into these people and discovering certain discrepancies was inevitable."
Jake shot him a sharp look. "You're awfully calm about this. Aren't you terrified he'll regain his memories?"
"We should have mentally prepared ourselves for that possibility the moment he decided to step foot in that city," Harold said smoothly.
Jake leaned against the desk. "Do you think he actually went back just to find the heirloom?"
"I have no idea," Harold admitted. "But even if he does remember everything, going back gives him the chance to finally get some closure and let go of his obsession.
After all..." He paused, his expression softening slightly.
"It's time he finally started over."
Jake nodded in agreement, letting out a long exhale. "Yeah, you're right. Genevieve Astor has been by his side through thick and thin for so long now. He owes her a real future."
"Watch what you say," Harold warned sharply. "Mr. Gardner and Ms. Astor are just friends."
"Stella and the boss started as just friends too, didn't they? And look how that ended up.
Besides, compared to Stella, Genevieve is clearly a much better match for him.
