Joshua replied nonchalantly, "If you don't understand, let's just leave it at that."
Aurora panicked. "Joshua, if I've done something to upset you, just tell me. If there's a misunderstanding, at least give me the chance to explain."
He cast a slow glance toward the door, then looked back at her. "It's nothing."
Catching the look, Aurora's suspicions flared. "Joshua, did... did Queenie say something to give you the wrong idea?"
"No," he said evenly. "Like Ms. Burton said, we didn't discuss anything."
Aurora's doubt only deepened. "You were alone together for forty minutes, and you really didn't say a single word?"
"Not a word."
Then, his tone shifted effortlessly. "Though, I am much more interested in the lie Stella fed me regarding my first love."
Aurora's breath hitched in her throat. "Queenie told you about Stella lying to you?"
Joshua paused, as if catching himself in a slip-up.
"No. We didn't discuss it."
Aurora's survival instincts screamed that something was horribly wrong. "But Queenie never specified what Stella supposedly lied about in the hallway. Joshua, how do you know it involves the first love?"
He brushed it off with a casual shrug. "Just a guess."
Aurora stared him down, her eyes searching his face. "Of all the things in the world to guess, why would you specifically guess that?"
Faced with her relentless questioning, Joshua suddenly seemed at a loss for words.
He closed his eyes, dismissing her. "I'm tired. Please see yourself out."
Aurora desperately wanted to push the issue, but the nurse returned, forcing her to swallow her questions.
She walked out of the hospital, her mind a chaotic storm of paranoia.
The moment she spotted Queenie outside, she grabbed her arm. "Queenie, what exactly did you and Joshua talk about in there?"
