For some reason, Stella suddenly remembered the time she and Joshua had repaired a car together.
She had assumed those deeply buried memories would fade into obscurity with the passage of time.
Yet, standing there, she realized those ancient moments were still as crystal clear as yesterday.
Back then, they had felt so ordinary.
Her heart couldn't help but flutter with a wave of emotion.
Forcing herself to stay calm, Stella said, "I understand. I'll make sure it gets fixed."
Seeing her agree, Joshua didn't press the issue. Instead, he handed his phone to her.
Stella looked at it, confused. "What's this?"
"Let's exchange contact info," he said casually. "Call me when the car is fixed."
Stella took his phone and typed in her number.
She hadn't changed her phone number in years.
Joshua dialed her number, let it ring once, and then hung up.
Next, he pulled up his QR code on a messaging app, gesturing for her to add him.
As she scanned the code, Stella remembered his old account—the one frozen in time three years ago, devoid of any new messages or responses.
His account was brand new, while hers was still the same.
Fate really had a twisted sense of humor.
After exchanging contacts, Joshua handed her his car keys.
"I have somewhere to be. You can drive the car back and handle it yourself."
Stella took the keys, but her pupils instantly contracted.
Hanging from the keychain was a small, cartoon figure that looked exactly like Joshua.
It looked a few years old and slightly worn, but it had been kept in pristine condition, with no faded paint.
It was one of the gifts Stella had given him all those years ago.
