Asa's lips curled into a playful smirk. "If catching that girl was such a walk in the park, Santos wouldn’t have tripped up so badly."

The assistant's eyes widened a bit. "Are you saying the shadow guard was taken down by that girl?"

"Maybe." Asa glanced out the car window and simply said, "Drive."

The tougher the challenge, the more he relished it.

Seeing this, the assistant held back from saying more.

Mirabella toyed with a pin in her hand. Earlier, when she ran into Lockie, she had casually taken it off.

She tilted her head, looking at Nick, who had been silent since getting in. Clearing her throat, she offered, "Nick, if you've got questions... just ask."

The silence was unbearable! Nick shot a glance at his sister. "So, what's the deal with Lockie?"

"Lockie? Who?" Mirabella was clueless, having never heard the name before.

Nick explained, "The countess's nephew, also the royal heir you told me to release."

Mirabella finally caught on, looking pretty surprised. "A royal heir, with such a big-shot background?"

Why did it suddenly feel like she just brushed past a fortune??? Nick sighed, "That's not the main point."

"I was locked in a room by the countess's maid, and he was the one who let me out," Mirabella said, leaving out the bit about the elite assassins.

Nick frowned a little. The Davis family had ties with the royals, and he knew Lockie was close with the countess's estate. But why would Lockie help Mirabella? Thinking it over, he said, "Lockie's got strong ties with the countess. His actions might not be all that selfless."
