Mirabella had just hopped off the bus when a sleek black sedan pulled up right in front of her. Without missing a beat, she opened the back door and slid in.
She barely had a chance to get comfy when the man inside pulled her into his arms, hugging her so tightly it felt like he might just squeeze the life out of her.
Up front, Wyatt, the driver, glanced in the rearview mirror, feeling a pang of envy as he started the car again. Some folks just couldn't help but show off their love.
"Hey!" Mirabella tilted her head back with a hint of exasperation. "Seriously, bro, are you trying to choke me here?"
James heard her call him 'bro' and felt his heart flutter like it had been tickled by a feather. But the memory of what went down at the Duke's place quickly put a damper on that feeling.
"Leave you alone for a minute, and you're off causing trouble, Mirabella. You've got quite the knack for it," James teased, finally letting her go, his voice lighthearted.
Mirabella's lips twitched. "Can we drop the sarcasm for once?"
James sighed at her indignant expression. "Those top-tier assassins aren't easy to deal with."
If it were just regular guards, he wouldn't be worried, but these were specially enhanced killers, way stronger than your average hitman.
Even if Mirabella was tough, it's hard to go up against four fists with just two hands. Not to mention the snipers lurking in the shadows.
Just thinking about it made James a bit anxious.
Mirabella paused for a moment, then genuinely said, "Honestly, I didn't find them all that impressive."
With just a flick of her wrist, she felt it was all over.
Wyatt almost hit the gas instead of the brake when he heard that. He'd faced those elite assassins before, and it felt like asking for trouble. Barely made it out. And Ms. Mirabella thought they weren't impressive? Is this the real world of the pros?
James held Mirabella's hand, a wry grin on his face. "I must've owed you big time in a past life."
