Nick shot a frosty glance at the Countess. "Quiet!"
The Countess was briefly stunned by his icy command, but then she caught sight of Lockie approaching from the drawing room. Her eyes narrowed for a moment before she stepped forward. "Lockie, you must help your aunt today."
Lockie took in the tense atmosphere of the grand hall. His gaze paused on Mirabella and the man protectively standing in front of her before he turned to the Countess. "What's the situation?"
The Countess quickly explained what had transpired, gesturing to the two doctors still being held by Wyatt. "The Earl's in critical condition, and yet they..."
Before she could finish, Lockie gently raised his hand to stop her. "Aunt, right now, you should focus on getting the Earl to the hospital, instead of keeping this standoff going."
The Countess was taken aback, not expecting her nephew to disagree with her so openly.
"Aunt, sometimes it's best to know when to stop," Lockie advised calmly as he moved past her toward the exit.
As he walked by Mirabella and Nick, he gave them a slight nod.
At the entrance, the Davis family still stood guard. Mirabella turned to Nick. "Should we head back too?"
Nick caught his sister's meaning and nodded. "Yeah."
With that, he gestured in the air, and their men smoothly began to withdraw, putting away their weapons as quickly as they had drawn them.
With the way clear, Lockie and his guards quickly disappeared from view.
Nick paused at the door, turning back to the Countess with eyes as cold as ice. "Tonight's events won't be forgotten."
