“Not going to?” Gavin threw up his hands. “The moment he woke in the hotel, he nearly strangled me!”

Brows lifting, Quinn turned to Julius. “You almost strangled him?”

“Mm.” Julius offered the single syllable without the faintest hint of apology.

Quinn released a quiet sigh. “Please don’t do that again. I promised Gavin you wouldn’t make his life miserable.”

“All right,” Julius answered, the promise stark and unadorned.

He finally peeled his stare away, slid in after her, and the door thunked shut behind him.

Gavin stood frozen on the asphalt, hand still resting on the open driver’s door. Just like that? He listens to her just like that?

He knew Quinn’s weight in Julius‘ world, yet the extent of that indulgence felt surreal.
