“Cabezota-”
“No.” Her voice trembled now. “You don’t get to call me that like everything’s fine.”

“God!” She exasperated as she ran her fingers through her hair roughly. “I can’t fucking believe I chose you over him.”
“Him?” Alejandro repeated darkly as his expression became menacing. There was only one name that came to mind, and it better not be him she was talking about.
“Damon,” she said, and the name landed between them like a spark to gasoline.
Alejandro froze, then slowly straightened, his entire posture shifting. His expression hardened. “What about him?”
Nivera hesitated, then forced the words out. “I should have fucking gone with him when he offered me a way
out.”
“What?” Alejandro’s voice thundered through the room.
Her eyes widened slightly, startled, but she held her ground.
He took a step toward her, his eyes darkening, and he didn’t stop until she was pressed against the window she had been staring at with him hovering over her. “Say that again.”
“I said maybe I should’ve-”
“Don’t.” His tone was low, deadly calm. “Don’t you dare say that name in my house.”
Her heart raced. “Why not? He loved-”
“Don’t fucking tempt me, Nivera!” He inhaled sharply, hitting the window.
Nivera gulped, but she held his gaze, refusing to back down. “You better fucking make this a cage because if you don’t, I’m getting the first chance I see to get out of here and into his arms.”
Alejandro’s pulse roared in his ears, and he closed his eyes to get himself to calm down. Nivera was pushing his buttons, and if she didn’t stop, he would indeed make this place into a pretty cage if that meant it would stop her from trying to leave him.
“You can’t do that; you’re in love with me,” he retorted tightly.
“What?” Nivera frowned in confusion as she didn’t remember telling him. Was she that obvious in her actions towards him?
“That night when you were drunk at my mother’s place. You told me you were in love with me.”
Nivera was rendered momentarily speechless as her cheeks flushed red with embarrassment. He had known

for that long, and the bastard didn’t say anything.

Her embarrassment paved into anger over how cocky he was that she wouldn’t leave him, and with the newly found surge of emotions, she pushed her off of him.
“Fuck you!” She spat out as she glared at him. “I might have loved you, but you best believe I’ll get over you, Alejandro.”
He took a step forward, then another, until he was right in front of her again. His voice came out low, rough, trembling with something unrestrained.
“You think I don’t feel anything for you?”
She blinked, startled by the change in his tone.
“You think I don’t lose my mind when you’re hurt, when someone else touches you, or when you even mention another man’s name?”
Nivera’s breath caught.
Alejandro’s hands came up to her face, his thumbs brushing her jaw as if to anchor himself. “You drive me insane, Nivera. Every. Single. Day. You make me want to burn down everything that ever hurt you, and you make me want to keep you so close that the world forgets you exist.”
Her lips parted, but no sound came out.
His eyes softened, but his voice broke–just barely. “I tried to fight it. Hell, I wanted to fight it. Because loving you means losing control–and I’ve spent my entire life making sure that never happens.”
Her pulse thundered in her ears.
“But I can’t anymore,” he went on, his thumb tracing her cheekbone, his breath warm against her face. “I can’t stand the thought of you leaving, of you smiling at someone else.”
Her heart stopped as she waited for him to go on.
“You think I’m keeping you here because I can’t let go? Because I want to control you? You’re wrong. I can’t let you go because I fucking love you! And it’s the one thing I can’t control.”
“Alejandro…”
“I do,” he said hoarsely. “God help me, I do. I’m madly in love with you, Nivera Elton. And it terrifies me because you’re the only thing in this world that could destroy me.”
“There. You wanted to hear it? You have it. I love you. In the ugliest, most possessive way possible. I love you so much it scares the hell out of me because I’ve never loved this hard.”
He laughed softly, but there was no humor in it. “You wanted to know why I keep you here? Because I can’t stand the thought of waking up and you being gone. Because the world doesn’t deserve you. Because every man that looks at you makes me want to break something.”
