The Billionaire's Dangerous Obsession (Nivera) novel Chapter 214

Chapter 214

The night was quiet as the city had gone to rest. However, his mind was sharp and alert.

Alejandro sat in the dark, his shirt unbuttoned at the collar, a halfempty glass of whiskey in hand.

He’d been sitting there for nearly an hour, his thoughts running wild and him trying to drown the restlessness in his chest with the quiet burn of liquor.

Behind him, Nivera lay curled under the sheets, her breathing soft and even. She’d fallen asleep almost instantly, exhausted from the long day.

Her hair spilled over the pillow in a dark halo, her face relaxed serene in a way that gave him peace.

The vibration of his phone on the table cut through the stillness. He didn’t need to look to know who it was.

Martins.

Alejandro’s jaw flexed as he reached for it, swiping the screen open. One glance at the message was enough to make the vein in his temple twitch.

-We need to talk. A lot of things are going wrong.

That was all Martins wrote. No explanations. No details. Which only meant one thing whatever he had to say wasn’t meant to be texted.

Alejandro downed the rest of his drink, the liquor burning down his throat, before rising silently. His movements were careful- deliberate- as he crossed to the bed.

For a moment, he simply looked at her.

Even in sleep, she seemed to pull something out of him something protective, raw, and infuriatingly tender. Her hand rested near the edge of the blanket, and he tucked it gently under the covers before pulling the sheets higher to keep her warm.

He brushed his thumb against her cheek.

Sleep well, Cabezota,” he murmured softly.

Then he pressed a kiss to her forehead, lingering just long enough to breathe her in before straightening and walking out of the room.

By the time he reached the door, Martins was already there, his face tight and grim.

Boss,Martins greeted with a curt nod.

Alejandro motioned him inside, shutting the door quietly behind them so the sound wouldn’t carry back to

the bedroom.

What did you find?Alejandro asked, his voice low but sharp.

Chapter 214

Martins handed him a small black USB drive and a printed report. I went over the security footage around the time of your mother’s attack. It’s all gone. Every frame wiped clean.

Alejandro’s brows knitted together. All of it?

Every damn camera within a twoblock radius,Martins confirmed. Not just disabled- overwritten. Whoever did this knew exactly what they were doing.”

Alejandro’s jaw clenched as he listened to Martins quietly. i

And it’s not the first time something like this has happened.”

Alejandro’s gaze flicked up sharply. What do you mean?

I checked the network logs for the mansion’s security system. There were remote breaches subtle ones around the same period as the attacks on Miss Nivera a few weeks ago. Whoever did this has been inside our system for a while now, sir.

The tension in the room thickened. Alejandro began pacing slowly, his mind spinning through possibilities.

You’re right, the attack on your mom and Miss Elton is connected.”

Alejandro’s eyes darkened as he knew that, all he needed was confirmation.

He dropped into the chair by the window, his elbows resting on his knees as he stared at the city below. For the first time in weeks, a familiar chill crept through him a cold, calculating edge that he thought he’d buried.

His instincts whispered one thing: This was orchestrated.

And whoever was behind itknew him not just randomly, they knew how his mind worked.

Pull up the mansion logs again,Alejandro ordered suddenly. Every entry and exit from the last month. I don’t care how small. Someone on the inside has been helping.

Martins hesitated, then gave a tight nod. Already did, sir. And I think I found something you’ll want to see.

He produced a second file a list of timestamps and names.

There’s been irregular movement from one of the staff members Clara, the kitchen assistant. She’s clocked in for night shifts she wasn’t assigned and accessed restricted areas more than once. Cameras didn’t catch her because-

Because someone wiped those too,Alejandro finished, his tone like a blade.

Yes, sir.”

Alejandro’s mind snapped into focus. The rage that burned through his veins wasn’t wild or chaotic it was icecold, precise.

Where is she now?

Neatly tied up in the back seat of my car,” Martins responded.

Should I take her to the base or do you want to interrogate her here?Martins asked.

Bring her up. I don’t have the patience to wait.

Martins nodded and left and within ten minutes, he returned and he wasn’t alone.

The young woman in front of him trembled under Alejandro’s stare. Her uniform was slightly wrinkled, her hair tied hastily at the back of her neck. Her eyes darted from Alejandro to Martins, panic flashing behind them.

Mr. Garcia, she stammered. II don’t understand. Did I do something wrong?

Alejandro leaned back against the table, arms crossed. You tell me.

He didn’t raise his voice. He didn’t have to. The quiet authority in his tone made the air itself seem to thicken.

Iuhif this is about my schedule, I only—

Alejandro stared intensely at her and his gaze only broke when Martins walked up to him and handed him a tablet which contained the helper’s bank statement.

His eyes zeroed in on some particularly large amounts of money that had been paid to her.

Tell me,Alejandro said, walking around her slowly. Who’s paying you?

The helper blinked rapidly. II don’t know what you mean, sir. I haven’t—

Alejandro slammed his hand on the desk, making her flinch violently. Don’t insult my intelligence.”

Someone has been sending money to your account,Alejandro continued, his tone deadly calm. Not once. Repeatedly. Now tell me why.”

The girl froze. Ino, sir, I swear-

Alejandro straightened slowly, closing the distance between them until he was standing mere inches from her. Don’t lie to me, Clara. You’re not very good at it.”

Her lips parted, trembling. Her eyes darted to Martins as if silently begging him for help, but Martinsexpression was unreadable,

I just I needed money, she finally blurted, tears gathering in her eyes. My brother owes- owes someone. They said if I didn’t help them get into the system, they’d hurt him. I didn’t know they’d- I didn’t know someone would get hurt!

Alejandro’s gaze hardened. Who are they?

I don’t know! They never told me a name!

Alejandro grabbed her chin, forcing her to look at him. Think carefully before you say another word.

Because if I find out you’re lying-

ES VoughIn

I’m not!she sobbed. All they said was that the person wanted information about Miss Nivera. Not you just her! They said they only wanted to watch her!

But watching her wasn’t all they did was it?He smiled referring to the time she almost fell down the stairs.

The helper clasped her mouth shut, unable to respond.

Martins,” he said quietly, still holding the girl’s gaze, trace every number she’s contacted in the last month. Every transfer, every payment. If we can’t find who’s pulling the strings, we’ll start by pulling the thread

Yes, sir.

Alejandro finally released the girl, who stumbled back, shaking. You’ll be kept under watch until I decide what to do with you,” he said coldly. If you’re telling the truth, you live. If not-

He didn’t finish. He didn’t have to.

When Martins escorted her out, Alejandro turned back to the window, his reflection staring back at him eyes sharp, posture rigid.

He pressed his thumb against the bridge of his nose, trying to steady his breathing. A gnawing thought dug its claws into his mind.

When Martins returned a few minutes later, he handed Alejandro a small slip of paper. There’s a number that keeps showing up, sir. Unregistered. But it connects to an offshore proxy network. Whoever’s behind it has money- and experience.”

Alejandro stared at the numbers, feeling the corners of his mouth twitch not in amusement, but grim recognition.

This isn’t a business attack. It’s a personal one from someone from my past.

If it was business related, they’d have attacked the company and not infiltrated his house. Plus, it wouldn’t make sense attacking his mother who barely had anything to do with the family company.

Martins looked up. From who?

Alejandro’s eyes lifted, burning with a dangerous light. That’s what I intend to find out. Kill the girl as soon as you get all the information you need from her.

He turned toward the bedroom door where Nivera slept peacefully beyond the walls, oblivious to the chaos that brewed outside. The soft glow of the lamp brushed against the faint smile that ghosted over his lips one that didn’t reach his eyes.

A ghost from his past. He had always ensured to tie up loose ends from anyone who posed or was going to pose a problem to him but it seems one had managed to slip through his fingers.

They had finally made progress and it was only going to be a matter of time before he’d come face to face with the culprit.
