The Billionaire's Dangerous Obsession (Nivera) novel Chapter 202

Chapter 202

The morning light seeped into the hospital room, painting the walls in gold. Nivera stirred before Alejandro did, her head resting against his chest, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat echoing softly beneath her ear.

He looked peaceful for oncehis usual hard edges softened, his features calm in a way that almost made her not want to wake him.

Almost.

A mischievous smile curved her lips as she tilted her head up. You drool in your sleep,” she whispered.

Alejandro’s lashes fluttered open immediately, his brows pulling together in sleepy confusion. What?

Right here, she said, pointing at her own chin. It was cute, though. Made you look less terrifying.”

He blinked once, twice, then exhaled through his nose, a slow grin forming as he caught on to the fact that she was lying. You know, Cabezota, lying to me the first thing in the morning isn’t exactly endearing.

I wasn’t trying to be endearing, she said as she squeezed his cheek.

Woman, don’t ruin my handsome face. This right here is the money maker,Alejandro grumbled but he made not attempt to remove her hand.

Her cheeks warmed, but before she could respond, the door opened and the doctor entered, clipboard in hand. He smiled politely at the sight of them sitting close together. Good morning. How’s our patient today?

Nivera straightened a little. Much better. A little sore, but I can live with that.

Alejandro immediately got out of the bed, though his hand found hers under the blanket, giving a reassuring squeeze. The doctor checked the monitor, examined the dressing on her side, and nodded approvingly.

Well, you’re one of the lucky ones,” he said, scribbling on the chart. The bullet only grazed your skin. No internal damage, no stitches needed beyond the surface layer. You’re healing well. You can be discharged today, but take it easy for the next few days.”

Nivera’s face lit up, pure relief washing through her. I can go home?

Yes, but-the doctor began, only to have her cut him off with an excited, Thank God!

Alejandro’s lips twitched as he watched her bounce slightly in excitement. Easy, Cabezota.

I’ll be careful, she promised, her grin radiant.

After a few more instructions and a prescription for mild painkillers, the doctor left them.

I hate it here, can we go home?Nivera asked Alejandro.

Sure, let me call someone to bring you a fresh set of clothes,he responded as he whipped out his phone.

Within an hour, Nivera was out of the hospital gown and back in her clothesan oversized beige sweater, black leggings, and the pair of white sneakers Alejandro had brought for her. Her hair was pulled back into a loose ponytail, her face still slightly pale but glowing with life.

When she stepped out of the bathroom, she found Alejandro standing by the window, sleeves rolled up, phone in hand. He looked tired but undeniably handsome, the kind of man who commanded attention without trying.

You ready?he asked, slipping the phone into his pocket.

More than ready.”

He smiled faintly and picked up her small overnight bag, holding the door open for her. Let’s go home.

The drive was calm, the hum of the engine filling the comfortable silence between them. The city stretched out around them, alive and busy.

She sat comfortably in the passenger seat, her hand resting loosely over her lap, occasionally glancing at Alejandro, who looked more at ease than he had in days though the faint exhaustion in his features still lingered.

She had been teasing him the entire morning about how worried he looked, how he flinched every time. she shifted, how his overprotective side could give any mother a run for her money. He took it in stride, responding with his usual blend of sarcasm and fondness, though his hand always seemed to hover too close, ready to catch her if she stumbled or breathed wrong.

As they drove a frown appeared on her face as she realized something. This isn’t the road to the mansion.she said, watching as they bypassed the usual turn that would have led to the mansion.

Alejandro didn’t look at her. I know.

Her brows furrowed. Then where are we going?

He turned the steering wheel smoothly, merging onto a quieter road lined with highrise buildings. We’re not going back to the mansion for now.

What? Why not?

Because it’s not safe. His voice was calm but firm. I can’t take you everywhere, and keeping you in that houseafter what happenedwould be reckless. The security breach shouldn’t have been possible in the first place.”

So what’s the plan then?she asked, crossing her arms. Are you kidnapping me?

He glanced at her, a faint smirk playing at his lips. Yes,he answered, not bothering to deny it and she smiled as well.

Where are we going?

He exhaled through his nose, eyes back on the road. To one of my penthouses. It’s in one of my family’s buildings. Top floor. Private access. It’s safer, quieterand closer to the city in case something comes up.
