The Billionaire's Dangerous Obsession (Nivera) novel Chapter 200

Chapter 200

The sky had gone from violet to deep, bruised black by the time Alejandro’s car rolled back into the hospital parking lot.

The engine’s low hum was the only sound breaking the silence of the night. He sat there for a moment, fingers gripping the steering wheel, pulse steady but heavy with the weight of what he’d just done.

The faint scent of iron still clung to his hands, no matter how many times he’d washed them. It always did. Blood had a way of staining more than skin. That, however, didn’t bother him, as he was used to it.

When he finally stepped out of the car, the night air hit him, cool and biting, grounding him back into the present. His shirt and dark pants were simple and cleanhe’d changed before leaving the compound, not for himself, but so Nivera wouldn’t see what he’d been. What he was.

Alejandro’s shoes made no sound as he strode down the hallway, every step measured and controlled. The men stationed outside Nivera’s room straightened the moment they saw him, tension snapping through their spines.

Report,Alejandro ordered, voice low but sharp enough to cut glass.

Nothing, sir,” one of the guards replied quickly. No disturbances. Everything’s been quiet since you left.

Alejandro’s gaze flicked between them, eyes hard and unreadable.

Good,he muttered, tugging at the sleeve of his black shirtthe fresh one he’d changed into after washing off someone else’s blood. Stay alert. No one enters this room except the hospital staff.

Yes, sir.”

He didn’t wait for another word. His hand brushed the door handle, and the moment it opened, all the hardness in his posture faltered.

The harsh lights of the hallway gave way to a dim, serene glow. Nivera’s room was quiet. The rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor and the soft hum of the air conditioner were the only sounds that greeted him.

She was lying there, curled faintly beneath white sheets, her dark lashes resting against her pale skin. Her chest rose and fell in slow, steady motions.

Peaceful. Untouched.

For the first time that night, Alejandro let out a long, heavy breath. His shoulders eased just a fraction as he stepped inside and closed the door behind him.

He stood for a moment, simply watching her. There was something almost sacred about the stillnessthe way her hand rested near her face, the faint glow of moonlight spilling through the blinds and tracing her profile.

He moved closer, drawn by an invisible thread. The sound of his movements was soft and careful, as he was afraid to disturb her sleep. But just as he reached the edge of her bed to brush the strand of hair that had fallen over her cheek, her eyes fluttered open.

She blinked up at him, confusion giving way to a sleepy frown. You’re back. Where did you go?

Her voice was soft, but it sliced through the stillness.

Alejandro froze. Her eyes were open now, those sharp hazel irises fixed directly on him. They weren’t sleepy. not unfocusedthey were alert, searching, quietly demanding.

For a second, he didn’t speak, as he hadn’t expected her to be awake.

Alejandro froze. You’re awake?

Don’t change the subject. She shifted slightly, wincing at the pull of the IV in her arm but not breaking eye contact. Where did you go, Alejandro?

He gave a small, almost amused exhalethe kind meant to deflect. You sound annoyed.”

I sound like someone worried, she countered. You left without saying a word. I woke up, and you weren’t here.”

Alejandro tilted his head, a faint smirk playing at the corner of his lips. And here I thought you’d be happy for the quiet. You need to rest, Nivera.”

She frowned faintly, not letting him deflect. Alejandro.”

His name from her lips had a way of disarming him. He exhaled slowly, running a hand through his hair. There was something I had to handle.”

Her brow furrowed. Something?

Someone,” he corrected, his tone careful, measured.

That’s not an answer. Her gaze dropped briefly to his clothes, brow furrowing. You changed.

He stilled.

Her voice softened but didn’t waver. You left in a suit. Now you’re wearing a shirt and pants. Why? And don’t deflect. I want to go back to sleep, but not until you tell me the truth.”

Alejandro sighed in defeat as she had put him in a tight spot. One of the attackers. Martins caught him.

Her eyes widened slightly, but she said nothing. He could already see the question forming in her gazewhat he had donebut he didn’t give her a chance to ask.

I had to make sure he talked,he continued, his tone low, almost distant. I needed to know who ordered the hit.

Did you find out?

His jaw flexed. For a heartbeat, he considered lyingtelling her it was nothing, that everything was handled- but the truth lingered at the edge of his silence.
