Charlotte’s wedding had been in the works for two months, with the date set for the end of October.
Two days before the ceremony, she received a call from an unfamiar number.
Lately, with all the wedding preparations, she had been getting calls every day–some from old classmates, some from relatives on the Riley or Sullivan side of the family, and some from the Jasper side. Unknown numbers had become routine, so she answered without thinking.
“Hello?” she greeted politely.
She expected another congratulatory call. Instead, the voice on the other end belonged to Zac.
His voice was low and rough, tinged with bitterness. “Charlotte, I heard you’re getting married.”
The moment she recognized his voice, her expression turned cold
“Yes,” she said flatly. “If you’re calling to congratulate me, thank you. If you’re calling to cause trouble, then-”
She didn’t finish before Zac cut in. His tone spiked with agitation. Charlotte, don’t be fooled by Sean Jasper’s act! He’s not who you think he is. He’s a manipulative snake. Did you know that when you and I were still together, he was pulling strings behind your back? Even Wendy’s return to the country was his doing!”
Charlotte froze for a moment, frowning slightly. “What are you talking about?”
“When we were together, Sean sent people to set me up. If I was out having fun, his people would send women to me. If I went to dinner or drinks, they’d arrange for a female companion. Even the hostesses at bars were planted by him. And Wendy coming back–he had people whisper things to her…”
“Zac Gibson.” Charlotte’s voice cut through his rambling like ice.
The single, cold call of his name stopped him in his tracks.
Her tone sharpened. “Are you saying someone knocked you out, stripped you, threw you into bed, and stripped those women too so you’d sleep together?”
“That’s not it, Charlotte…”
“Or are you saying you were drugged, completely out of it, and had no choice but to sleep with them?”
“I…no… that’s not…” he stammered.
“So, were you threatened? Did someone tell you they’d kill you if you didn’t?”
His voice dropped, laced with guilt. “No…”
Charlotte let out a short, mocking laugh. “Then you were fully conscious, perfectly healthy, and still went along with it. You had a girlfriend, but when someone shoved a woman at you, you didn‘ refuse. You enjoyed it. So tell me–how exactly is that Sean’s fault?”
Zac’s voice grew heated again, laced with frustration. “He’s the one who sent them to me!”
“Do you not know how to say no?” Her voice rose, the anger finally breaking through. “You couldn’t control yourself, and now you’re blaming someone else? Thank you for telling me this, Zac really mean it. If it weren’t for him, I might never have seen your true colors so clearly.
“Zac Gibson, the most disgusting person here is you. The dirtiest person is you. You’ve never once looked at your own mistakes. You just blamed everyone else. A man like you doesn’t deserve love”
She ended the call without hesitation and immediately blocked his number.
The door opened, and Sean stepped inside.

“You heard all of that?” she asked.
The door had been ajar, and her voice hadn’t been quiet.
Sean gave a short “Mm” in response.
Charlotte looked at him. “Zac said you were the one who sent women to him back then, and that you had something to do with Wendy coming back. Is that true?”
