Switched Bride True Luna novel Chapter 17

Chapter 17

Emily

All we did was stand there, locked in each other’s gazes. With Logan standing a step below me, we were eye to eye for the first time.

The heat between us was intense. The closeness of our faces made our breaths mingle.

Whenever we were together, and especially when we were alone, the air felt as though it were charged. There was something between us, something neither of us had ever admitted.

The thought made my heart skip a bit. Such heat between two people was not normal.

I thought you only cared about your position as heir,I said, breaking the silence.

Logan scoffed. I do care, but not so much that I would abandon my fiancée.

Why not?I asked. I clutched the fabric of my dress, preparing for the answer.

This is no more than a small obstacle, Emily. That’ll happen from time to time. All we have to do is keep working together, and we will find a way to tackle it.

When he looked at me with those steely eyes, I felt weak in the knees. He gave me feelings I

didn’t know how to explain. No one had ever made me feel like this before.

As I learned more about him and the man he really was, those feelings only grew.

Michael, even, had said time and time again that he refused to mark me because of my wolf dormancy.

That was the last step we had to take before we got married. Marking was an intimate but important part of being a werewolf. It was the moment mates had to create the ultimate connection between them and show the rest of the world that they were yours.

Because my wolf was dormant, I was incomplete. That meant, to Michael at least, that I wasn’t worth the time and effort of marking.

That’s why it was so hard for me to Logan accepting me wholly and truly as his Luna.

You’re right, I’m sorry. We can do this together,I said quietly. Logan brought one foot up to the step I was on, and his leg brushed against the fabric of my dress. I almost shivered as a wave of heat washed over me.

Don’t apologize. Just make it up to me,he said. He leaned forward, our noses a few inches

from each other.

My face grew hot as I closed my eyes, and I waited for a kiss.

But a kiss didn’t come. When I opened my eyes, Logan was smiling playfully at me.

Would you fix my tie?he asked. His voice was low, near a whisper.

I had really expected a kiss, but all he wanted was his tie fixed. Why did I think he’d ask for a kiss? How embarrassing

I reached out to him and carefully took the soft material of his bowtie into my hands. I

focused as I tried to get it nice and straight.

But being so close to Logan was making my hands shake ever so slightly. It wasn’t nerves so much as butterflies. My fingers brushed against the skin of his necks, and little tingles shot through my fingers all the way down to my toes.

I was careful to avoid his eye, afraid of what might happen if we met each other’s gaze. Although I’m not entirely certain what I thought that was.
