Chunky walked into Leo's office. "Leo, our system is completely flawless."
Leo rested his chin on his phone, his eyes dark with thought. He suddenly remembered a warning his uncle had given him: The bigger the prize, the more predators circle.
Golden Top had just started making a name for itself in the tech world. But right after the holidays, their partners started demanding contract terminations. Since there were zero issues with their product, it had to be a coordinated attack.
But who had the power to blackball him like this?
Two massive deals that were right on the verge of being signed had suddenly stalled. When Leo pressed for answers, the clients gave vague excuses, dragged their feet, and finally claimed they found a 'more suitable partner' before backing out.
He had lost five major clients in a row.
Chunky was pacing the office, nervously scratching his head. Alyna was so stressed she couldn't sleep at night, let alone focus on her thesis. "What are we going to do, Leo?"
Leo leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, and didn't say a word.
At Cedillo Inc.
Early that morning, Andre had a headache while dropping his two favorite people off for the day.
Every morning, the two "students" spent half the car ride arguing about who got dropped off first. No one would ever guess the bickering duo were mother and son.
"Mommy, you said we'd play rock-paper-scissors for it!"
Mia rolled her eyes. "Bring it on."
Andre was already turning at the intersection, fully intending to drop the brat off first. But then—
"Yes! I win! Daddy, take me to school first!"
Andre had to make a massive detour. He even drove right past Henry's school without stopping, just so he could drop his wife off first.
When he finally pulled up to Havenbrook University, Henry pressed his face against the window. "Bye, Mommy! Make sure you miss me!"
Mia waved him off. "Who would miss you? Thinking about the stunts you pull just makes me want to ground you."
She said it, but the truth was, she always missed him.
