Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance novel Chapter 1660

Milka suddenly remembered, “I didn’t get Lizzy a present.”

Showing up to meet a kid for the first time with empty hands—how awkward is that? “And I didn’t even put together a red envelope.”

Mars rolled his eyes. “Seriously? It’s not like Newtown is some deserted wasteland. We can just grab something when we get there.”

Milka relaxed a little. “You’re right.”

Whenever she was with Mars, she barely thought for herself—she’d just fallen into the habit of letting him call the shots.

After the plane touched down, Mars immediately pulled Milka along to go gift and envelope shopping. “I already gave them something before, you know. Honestly, you could show up with nothing and nobody would blink.”

That was just how things went with Andre’s family—one gift from the godparents, end of story.

Still, Milka picked out a present and went with Mars to the Nettleton place.

The Nettletons were one of those old-money families—their entrance was massive and impressive, with security everywhere. Milka felt a little intimidated. Sensing her nerves, Mars confidently took her by the wrist. “Let’s go.”

She’d met Conner once before, back in Havenbrook. “If you’re ever in Newtown with Mars, look for Conner,” someone had told her.

That time, Milka just remembered thinking Conner had total gangster vibes—he seemed kind of scary, and she didn’t really dare go near him.

It was only because Andre was around that she’d felt halfway comfortable.

Even now, facing Conner—now Mr. Nettleton—she couldn’t help but feel a little nervous.

“What are you so scared of? He’s just a big, rough guy. Milka, I’m telling you, you should’ve seen his wife go off on him once—gave him a black eye with one punch. He looked like a pirate for a week!” Mars snickered.

“My sister comes over ten times, and nine times she has to call me to ask where Lizzy is.”

Mr. Nettleton took his daughter everywhere. Even his sister-in-law, who never got along with him, had his number saved just to call and ask, “Hey, where’s Lizzy? Conner, if you keep dragging her all over town, I’m just taking her home with me next time.”

Once, when he got home, he called out, “You can visit my daughter all you want, but if you think you’re taking her home with you, keep dreaming, sis.”

Maja would yell back, “Just wait until Annie gets home and puts you in your place.”

Annie would walk in the door, sighing, “Conner! Where did you take Lizzy this time? And what did you say to my sister now?”

Ever since Conner became a dad, the Nettleton house was always buzzing with energy.
