Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance novel Chapter 1626

Mars munched on his roast chicken, sounding offhand as he asked, “So, that guy you had dinner with last time—how long have you two been dating?”

Milka barely glanced up. “He’s just a business partner.”

Mars smirked. “A business partner who sends roses? That’s a new one.”

Milka shot him a look. “Why do you care, anyway?”

Mars just shrugged, piling more food onto his fork. “Hey, you’re right, it’s not my business. But maybe check if there’s any news in your belly—I’m still waiting to hear I’ll be an uncle.”

Milka rolled her eyes and focused on her food.

Of course, they both knew she wasn’t pregnant. Months had passed—if there was any news, they’d have heard it by now. And Milka, being a woman, definitely knew her monthly cycle hadn’t missed a beat.

But neither of them brought it up. They just left things as they were, unspoken.

Every now and then, Mars would call and ask, “Any news about my nephew yet?”

Milka would answer, “Nope.”

It was a flimsy excuse—just a way for them to stay in touch.

After dinner, Mars drove Milka back to her apartment. “If you like that little guy so much, we can drop him off at school together when term starts.”

Milka hesitated, her situation a little complicated. “We’ll see.”

Mars’s offer hung in the air, gently turned down. He watched her walk inside, then headed home.

Back at the Arrowood house, Roberto greeted him with a trademark grin. “Well, look who wandered in! For a second, I thought you were a stranger.”

Mars dropped onto the sofa. “Dad, did you know Jupiter’s old injury is acting up again? And he’s ignoring the doctor’s orders?”

Roberto looked at him, puzzled. “Who told you that?”

Even without the kids’ engagement, the families stayed close. The past didn’t get in the way.

Milka glanced at Mars, a little sharp, silently questioning how he’d known to visit. She’d only told him about her dad’s health, and clearly Roberto had gotten the scoop from Mars.

Mars cleared his throat and looked away.

Roberto, quick on the uptake, changed the topic. “So, Milka, now that you’re back, you planning to stick around?”

Everyone turned to look at her. “Uncle Roberto, I’ll see how things go. If work goes smoothly, maybe I’ll stay.”

Roberto grinned. “No better place for you than home. You’re a general’s daughter, after all, and your dad’s only got you. It’d be a shame not to carry on the family legacy.”

Milka nodded, keeping it modest. “I’ll think about it, Uncle.”

Roberto’s expression softened. “How’s your mom doing abroad? She settling in alright?”
