Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance novel Chapter 1624

Every time Mars got worked up, all he could do was stress out—he even wished he could magically swap places with Milka and take her exams for her.

It was a long time before Mars finally called. “Milka, I’ve been out at—”

“We’re divorced,” Milka interrupted, blunt and flat.

Mars was stunned into silence. At the time, Milka herself was stuck in a rut, lost and confused. Of course her parents’ divorce had left a mark. She’d taken an entrance exam, failed, and nothing Mars said could really comfort her.

Then, right in the middle of it all, Abby decided she was done with the gossip and whispers. “Everyone knows about your dad and me. After the divorce, all anyone does is talk. Even the relatives are in on it. I just want to go somewhere new, start over. I have a college friend who’s working overseas and wants me to join her. What do you think, Milka?”

Milka stared at her mother, who’d been a stay-at-home mom for decades. “Wait, Mom, you went to college?”

Back in those days, a college degree was a huge deal. Her mom could have bragged about it, but instead, she’d spent twenty-odd years making meals and keeping the house spotless.

“Your father’s job needed me to stay home, to hold down the fort,” her mother said.

Milka frowned. “But he never really saw how hard you worked. He just thinks he’s the man of the house, so whatever he says goes.”

That got Milka thinking about her own life. “What do I actually want? Why am I even trying so hard to get into the military academy? Am I just following the path everyone expects, stuck in someone else’s shadow?”

All at once, she realized she didn’t want to keep taking tests and chasing after things that weren’t hers. She wanted to figure out what she liked for herself.

When she told Mars, he lost his temper—he’d planned everything out, and suddenly his girlfriend wanted to take a U-turn.

They ended up fighting and parted on a sour note.

Later, Milka brought up breaking up, and Mars, still fuming, just agreed on the spot.

And that was the end of the grand alliance between the Solomon family and the Arrowoods.

He went home, cleaned up, bought a pile of gifts, and drove straight to the Solomon house, ready to see her.

Only to find out she and her mom had already left the country.

Mars didn’t even know how to be angry—he just felt stuck, like something was jammed tight in his chest.

He called up a few buddies and went out for drinks.

But really, he was the only one actually drinking.

Teddy nudged him. “What’s with you? You just got back and you’re already hitting the bottle?”

Andre, cold as ever—like he lived in an ice bath—answered for him. “He and Milka broke up.”
