Looking at her son—her cheeky little guy—he stuck out his tiny hand, demanding a puff of his dad’s cigarette. With both his parents there, he acted downright fearless, like he owned the world.
Andre shot Annie a glance, then signaled for his crew to let the traffic through.
As the cars rolled away, the Cedillo family stepped forward. “Mr. Andre, what’s our move?”
Andre didn’t hesitate. “Prep the jet. We’re heading out of the country.”
On the drive, Annie was lost in thought. Mia, now fully in the loop about Annie’s situation, squeezed her little boy’s soft cheeks. Oddly enough, this time, she felt no fear.
Annie, though, was worried. “Mia, do you think Conner found my sister?”
Mia flashed a sly smile. “My husband told me to keep my lips sealed~”
Conner knew the whole Maja mess was a lot to handle. He didn’t want his pregnant wife to stress, so he’d only shared the details with friends.
But Mia was Andre’s sweetheart, always with him—there wasn’t much she could miss.
Annie knew that, so she went straight to the point. “Conner just switched jobs. He can’t possibly have contacts overseas already. Things aren’t even steady here—how would he have foreign connections?”
They’d agreed to stay out of the Dark Web’s business, but suddenly the Dark Web was here. Annie couldn’t believe nothing had happened behind the scenes.
Conner had told her—she was the target.
And whoever was aiming at her was really trying to threaten two people: Conner and her sister.
Mia hesitated, then blurted, “Okay, here’s the deal—your sister’s found herself another man.”
“Huh?”
Mia realized she’d been too blunt. “So, it looks like the Dark Web grabbed that guy, and now they’re using him to control your sister. She started bargaining with Conner, and then she went to the Dark Web herself to save him. Conner’s trying to rescue them both.”
“He didn’t tell you because he didn’t want you to worry. But who knew we’d get roped into this again—” She looked down at her squishy little boy. “The three of us, just like last time. It’s like we’re a team.”
Chunky had dropped nearly twenty pounds and looked healthier than ever.
As they headed out, Chunky asked, “Leo, what’s going on?”
Leo stared straight ahead, starting the engine. “Chunky, you up for taking on the Dark Web?”
“What?” Chunky nearly choked.
Leo kept his eyes on the road, driving toward their meeting spot.
Tony picked up when Leo called. “Tony, you once said if I needed you, you’d be there.”
Tony tossed aside his apron and headed out the door.
At the rendezvous, Leo made sure everyone was there. “Leo, what’s the big rush? I’ve got a meeting this afternoon.”
