Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1275

The air around Dennis felt heavy, almost suffocating.

When Camila slowly woke up, the first thing she noticed was the tension radiating off him. She reached for his hand, her fingers barely steady. Even though she still looked pale and tired, she forced a small smile and tried to sound light. “Dennis, I’m fine. Really. You don’t need to worry so much.”

He didn’t answer. Instead, he stepped closer and wrapped her in his arms, holding her tight.

They had just gotten married. The happiness of promising forever to each other hadn’t even sunk in before this nightmare crashed into their lives. How was he supposed to be okay?

Camila didn’t know what else to say. She just leaned into him and let him hold her, hoping her quiet presence would be enough. Soon, exhaustion pulled her under again, and she drifted back to sleep.

Dennis stayed by her side, watching her sleep. He didn’t disturb her. But as he looked at her, his eyes grew cold and dangerous. Anyone could feel the shift in the room, the storm brewing just beneath his calm.

He pulled out his phone and typed a message to Audrey, who was all the way in Harrisburg.

Tell Walter Wilson not to show mercy to the Smith family.

When Audrey read the message, she was confused. Why was her brother so angry? Her mind immediately jumped to Camila. Had something happened to her again?

She couldn’t stop herself from calling Dennis right away. “What’s going on? What did your message mean? Is Camila okay?”

Dennis closed his eyes for a moment, struggling to keep himself together. His hand was clenched so tight his knuckles turned white. “It means what it says. Camila’s unconscious. She’s under observation at the institute. It’s not looking good, but for now, she’s out of immediate danger.”

Audrey stopped breathing for a second. She could tell he wasn’t telling her everything. If her brother was this angry, things had to be worse than he admitted.

She felt completely helpless. There was nothing she could do for Camila. Her worry was written all over her face.

Walter Wilson walked into the office just then, catching the faraway look on her face. He tapped his fingers on her desk, pulling her back to reality. “What’s got you so distracted? Did something happen?”

Audrey blinked and looked up at him. Seeing Walter there, she felt like she could finally let her guard down. “It’s Camila. She’s not doing well. She’s back at the institute.”

She didn’t give him the details, but Walter understood right away. His lips pressed together, and he looked genuinely concerned.

He tried to reassure her. “Don’t worry too much. Camila will pull through. But as for the Smith family… they shouldn’t get away with this.”

Jordan Smith was the real reason everything had gone wrong. If he hadn’t been so selfish and obsessed, none of this would have happened.
