Camila nervously twisted the edge of her dress, her cheeks turning pink. She shot a quick look at Dennis, then faced the Williams family elders, trying to steady her nerves. “Grandpa Williams, Uncle Douglas, Aunt Charlotte.”
Her voice was soft but clear, surprisingly steady despite the butterflies in her stomach.
Aunt Charlotte’s face lit up as she stood, practically beaming while she handed over a red envelope. “We’ve waited for this moment for so long. From now on, we’re all family.”
Camila accepted the envelope with both hands, her manners perfect. “Thank you, Aunt Charlotte. Thank you, Uncle Douglas.”
Dennis didn’t hesitate either. He turned to his new parents-in-law and Mr. Williams, greeting them warmly. “Dad, Mom, Master.”
Melissa smiled and passed a red envelope to Dennis. “This is for you, Dennis. Take it.”
The elders couldn’t stop smiling. The joy in the room was infectious.
Then Mr. Williams handed Dennis his envelope, his expression gentle but serious. “Congratulations to both of you. Camila’s parents and I don’t want anything except for you to always treat her well. Please, never hurt her. If you ever stop loving her, just bring her back to us. She’s been through too much already, so many hardships. It took everything for her to trust someone again. Just make sure she never feels alone.”
Dennis met their eyes and nodded, his promise unwavering. “That will never happen. Dad, Mom, Master, I promise.”
Mr. Williams’s face relaxed into a genuine smile. “We believe you.”
He really did believe Dennis was different from Jordan Smith, that he’d take care of Camila the way she deserved. Still, even in this happy moment, a tiny ache tugged at Mr. Williams’s heart. If only everything could be perfect, with nothing to regret.
The family lunch wrapped up with laughter and warmth.
Dennis was in a better mood than he’d been in ages. He’d already planned a special evening with Camila, just the two of them. Camila was excited, too, looking forward to their private celebration.
But as soon as they got back to Eagle’s Peak Estate, something changed. Camila’s face suddenly lost all color.
She figured it was just her weak immune system acting up again. Maybe she just needed to rest and she’d be fine.
But the feeling only got worse. The more she tried to push through it, the more her stomach twisted. A wave of nausea hit her so hard she barely made it to the bathroom before she started throwing up.
Dennis’s heart dropped. With Camila’s health, any little problem felt like a crisis.
He waited until she was done, then handed her a glass of water. “Camila, let’s go to the institute.”
“I’m really okay…” she tried to protest, knowing he wanted her checked out. She hated making him worry, especially today. She just wanted to stay with him.
