The next morning, Audrey was back to her usual energetic self. When she came downstairs for breakfast, Walter was already up and waiting.
He looked at her with concern. “Are you feeling okay? Any lingering discomfort? Do you want to get checked out at the hospital?”
Audrey grinned and blinked at him. “I’m fine. Camila’s medicine worked like a charm. No need for a hospital visit.”
Walter studied her face for a moment, making sure she really was alright. Once he was convinced, he finally relaxed.
“Alright, let’s eat.”
“Mm-hmm.” Audrey nodded and sat beside him, as well-behaved as ever.
They didn’t linger long over breakfast since they had plans to meet Robert. As soon as they finished eating, they headed out.
The contact from the medical school had already been arranged, but to their surprise, Kyle Garcia showed up in person.
Walter raised his eyebrows, clearly caught off guard. “I didn’t expect you to come yourself.”
He knew things in Cabinda were tense, and Kyle had been worried about Camila Davis for a while, spending a lot of time at the research institute over there.
Kyle nodded. “I’m here to take care of a few things. The research team still needs some breakthroughs. I came to manage the medical supplies, and I’ll head back this afternoon.”
Audrey was surprised too. “You’re so busy, but you still made time to come. Thank you for going out of your way.”
Her words were sweet, and Kyle couldn’t help but smile. “Coordinating supplies takes some time, and I happened to have a window. Might as well do something useful instead of sitting around. Let’s get going.”
Walter just gave him a nod. “Thanks for taking the trouble.” He didn’t bother with formalities. They were all friends here.
The three of them headed off together to meet Robert at his hotel.
When they arrived, Robert’s assistant opened the door and immediately recognized Walter. He didn’t hesitate, quickly welcoming them inside.
Robert was already up, sipping a fresh cup of coffee. When he saw Walter and Audrey, his smile was obvious. “I thought you guys were just being polite. Didn’t expect you’d actually show up.”
Walter smiled back. “I meant it. Even if we don’t end up working together, we can still be friends. People from Estonia take friendship seriously.”
Audrey nodded in agreement and turned to Robert. “Robert, why don’t we check on your health first?”
“Sounds good.”
Robert genuinely liked both of them and appreciated the way they handled things. Since they’d even brought a doctor for him, he was more than willing to cooperate.
Robert didn’t even have to think about it. He’d seen so many doctors who couldn’t help, but this young man seemed confident he could fix it.
He was eager to see what Kyle could do.
Kyle had him lie down on the bed and got started with the acupuncture.
The whole treatment lasted about an hour. When it was done, and Kyle finished the massage, Robert sat up, looking amazed. All the aches and tension he’d been living with for years felt so much better.
He looked at Kyle, eyes wide. “I can’t believe it. You actually fixed it. You really are a miracle worker.”
Kyle smiled. “You’ll need long-term care, but this first session already looks promising. If you stick with it and keep up with the treatments, I’m confident your body can feel as young as it did in your twenties or thirties.”
Robert laughed. “With a promise like that, how could I say no?”
Kyle just smiled back. “It’s your call. Your work, your decision. No one’s here to pressure you.”
Walter spoke up too. “Robert, don’t feel like you have to work with us just because we brought a doctor. We did this as friends. We wanted to help, not use it as leverage.”
“That’s right,” Audrey agreed, nodding. “Business is business. A partnership should be about what both sides can do. If we just relied on favors, there’d never be a real win-win.”
