Both of them handled things with calm and reason. Even though they wanted to land Robert’s partnership, they never acted desperate or pushy. Robert already knew what they were after, but from beginning to end, their approach put him completely at ease. Everything felt genuine. Their skills spoke for themselves, and Robert couldn't find anything to criticize.
He was honest with them. “If you hadn’t come today, I probably wouldn’t have considered being a consultant. But since you actually brought a doctor, I’ll say yes.”
A good partnership needs more than just capability. It takes sincerity from both sides, and these two had shown him both. Besides, after struggling for years with his health issues, he finally felt some relief and maybe even hope for a cure.
There really wasn’t anything left to hesitate about.
Walter and Audrey were stunned by his answer. For a moment, they both just sat there, eyes wide, not quite believing what they’d heard. It took them a few seconds to catch up.
They exchanged a look, then burst out, “Really? You mean it, Robert?”
Robert nodded, got to his feet, and reached out to Walter. “Mr. Wilson, looking forward to working with you.”
Walter shook his hand, trying to keep his excitement in check. “Looking forward to it!”
Just like that, the partnership was set.
Robert, smiling, added, “But you’ll have to take care of my health from now on. That’s part of the deal.”
“Of course! Absolutely!” Audrey was practically glowing. “We’ll make sure you’re healthy and live a long, happy life!”
Her words made Robert laugh out loud. He really liked the way that sounded.
Kyle joined in, grinning. “Don’t worry, Robert. I’ll set up a treatment plan just for you. When you get a chance, you should come in for a full checkup. Our institute can take care of everything.”
Robert nodded, happy to accept their help.
With the deal done, the three of them, always quick to act, started discussing the details of the consultant contract right away. Since they hadn’t expected Robert to say yes so quickly, Walter and Audrey hadn’t brought the paperwork with them.
Robert didn’t seem bothered. When their conversation wrapped up, he said to Walter, “Mr. Wilson, just draft up the contract when you get back and send it over.”
“Of course,” Walter agreed easily.
With Robert’s health sorted and the partnership in place, there was no reason to stick around.
Kyle gave her a nod and left.
After he was gone, Walter and Audrey went straight back to The Smith Group. Until that contract was signed, there was always a risk things could change. They didn’t want to waste a second, so as soon as they got back, they headed for the legal team to draw up the contract.
By that afternoon, the contract was delivered to Robert’s hotel for him to sign.
That evening, people from The Smith Group showed up at Robert’s hotel, hoping to meet with him. They had actually tried to see him the night before, but never got the chance. When they called, his assistant told them Robert wasn’t feeling well and had already gone to bed. He was busy all day today too.
With no other choice, they had to reschedule for later, which brought them to this evening. This time, The Smith Group’s team came in person, trying to show how serious they were and hoping to invite Robert to dinner.
At first, Robert asked his assistant to turn them down. But The Smith Group wouldn’t give up. Their determination surprised Robert.
He turned to his assistant. “I don’t really know anyone from The Smith Group, do I? Why are they so determined to have dinner with me?”
The assistant, always sharp, shared his thoughts. “The Smith Group used to be in tech research and development. Maybe they’re hoping to hire you. They even reached out to me through some contacts before we arrived in Estonia.”
