“Hm?”
Orval and his wife both looked surprised. They really hadn’t expected the Browns to agree so easily. He couldn’t help but ask, “What do you mean by plans?”
Beatty paused, then laughed. “You really don’t know, do you? That guy keeps everything to himself. He didn’t let a single word slip. Honestly, he made up his mind last year. He decided he was coming back to win Aurora over for good, to marry her. But he didn’t want Aurora to give up her career because of him, so he started making arrangements. He shifted the Brown Group’s focus over to Cabinda. Sarah used to manage the Harrisburg branch, but her brother moved her here as part of the plan. Sarah’s still learning the ropes, so Billy’s been handling most of the work himself. At this point, the business is running smoothly both here and abroad. Pretty soon, he’ll be able to settle down in Cabinda and take over the group here. His dad and I will handle things overseas. That way, he can stay by Aurora’s side without any worries.”
Belinda looked stunned. “Is this… really true?” She turned to her daughter. “Aurora, why didn’t you tell us?”
Aurora was just as shocked. She really hadn’t known any of this. Well, not completely. She’d noticed the Brown family’s business was shifting back home since last year, but she hadn’t thought much about it. She never imagined it was all because of Billy. He’d been planning this the whole time, all for her.
In that moment, Aurora was truly touched. All the bitterness she’d been feeling just faded away.
Orval was speechless for a long moment. Finally, he turned to Waldo and his wife. “You… just let him do all this?”
Waldo smiled, waving a hand. “Life’s short. A few decades, that’s all. As long as you earn enough to be comfortable, why chase after more? We’ve always believed our kids’ happiness matters most. And it’s not like Billy has to carry the entire Brown family alone. I haven’t been too involved in the business lately, but if anything big ever happened, I’d still be there. All these things don’t matter as much as Aurora does.”
He smiled at his son. “Our boy takes after us when it comes to loyalty. At least that’s one good thing about him.”
