The Browns had no objections at all. Waldo sat up a little straighter and said, “Orval’s right. We’ll pick another time to talk about it. And we’ll choose a good day to come over and officially propose to the Robinsons.”
Once everything was out in the open, Beatty and Belinda both looked like a huge weight had been lifted from their shoulders. Suddenly, they were chatting and laughing like old friends. As they walked out of the restaurant together, they were already planning to hit the spa and do some shopping. Their husbands, being the devoted types, followed along, still deep in business talk, and found a teahouse near the spa to continue their conversation.
The four parents got along perfectly and left without any fuss. Right before leaving, Beatty pulled her son aside and said, “Aurora is in your hands now. Take her for a walk, maybe grab some afternoon tea, and then bring her home later.”
Billy just nodded, his face soft with a smile he couldn’t hide. Now that their relationship was official, he could finally hold his future wife’s hand without feeling self-conscious. The gentle happiness in his eyes never faded.
Sarah watched all this and started to feel a little out of place. Still, she couldn’t help but poke her brother’s arm. “Hey, I know I’m kind of a third wheel, but I didn’t drive today. Before you take Aurora out on your date, could you drop me off at my boyfriend’s place?”
Billy looked at her, stone-faced. “Boyfriend’s place? No way. You’re going to the Smith Group.”
Sarah stared at him, completely shocked. “Seriously? I just helped you out, talked you up, and made sure you and Aurora finally got together. Now you’re already throwing me under the bus?”
Billy gave her a cold little smile. “Did you forget? Your help just paid off what you owed me for last night.”
Sarah was speechless. She remembered the mess she’d made the night before and didn’t dare argue anymore. She looked to Aurora for help, putting on her best sad face. “Aurora, did you see that? He’s bullying me again.”
She switched to calling Aurora by the more affectionate “sister-in-law” without missing a beat. Aurora found the siblings’ back-and-forth pretty funny, but as usual, she was quick to back Sarah up. “Is there something important at the Smith Group? If there is, I can go with you. I don’t have anything pressing at the Robinson Group today, so I have time.”
Billy looked like he wanted to protest. He frowned and said to Aurora, “Don’t spoil her so much. She’ll just keep pushing her luck.”
