“So you can’t miss this chance. No matter what it takes, we have to make it happen.”
Nicholas Lee understood exactly what was at stake. He turned to his assistant right away and told him to get on it.
While all this was going on, Dennis Williams was overseas with Camila Davis, helping her unwind. The two of them spent several days just enjoying themselves, relaxing and exploring new places. The more time they spent together, the closer they became. Camila’s memory was unpredictable. Sometimes she would remember things for a moment, then forget again, so she grew more dependent on Dennis. It felt to him like they were falling in love for the first time, and honestly, he kind of liked it. There was something sweet and new about it all.
A few days later, Aaron showed up with news.
“Mr. Williams, we finally have a lead on Professor Keri.”
Dennis looked up and waited for him to go on.
Aaron nodded. “The source of the G-1 drug really does come from the Kaston black market. After it got out, it was shipped to different countries. We followed the trail from when Professor Keri disappeared, and everything points back to Aetheria.”
He pulled out a map and tapped on a spot. “It’s here. This used to be a famous winery district in Kaston. Years ago, there was a huge explosion. The whole area was abandoned and no one has been there since. But our people noticed that there’s been some activity lately.”
When the silence dragged on, Aaron asked, “Mr. Williams, what’s on your mind?”
Dennis finally spoke. “All we know for sure is that this place might be back in operation. But what about the rest of it? Where do they get their materials? They can’t just appear out of thin air. And once they make the drugs, how do they get to the black market? This might be their lab, but that doesn’t mean Professor Keri is actually there. We have to dig deeper and be careful. If we spook them, they’ll run. Also, don’t forget, we’ve guessed before that Keri has someone powerful helping him. We need to investigate that, too.”
Aaron said, “We’ve already looked into that. Our contacts have searched all over Kaston’s criminal world these past few days, but so far, nothing stands out.”
Dennis narrowed his eyes, his fingers tapping slowly on the arm of the sofa. After a few moments, he spoke up. “Don’t just look into the underworld. Take a bigger risk. Check Kaston’s official side, too.”
