Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1059

Patton’s hands started to tremble as Cynthia Lee snapped at him. He tried to keep his voice steady, but it came out shaky. “Based on what we know, they left around two days ago. As for where they went, our people are still looking into it. We... we haven’t found anything yet.”

Cynthia’s eyes narrowed. She looked about ready to explode. “They’ve been gone for two days and you’re only telling me now? Two days, and you still don’t know where they are? What do I even pay you for? Are you all completely useless?”

She was relentless, her words slicing through the room.

Patton felt a wave of frustration and embarrassment, but he rushed to explain. “We’ve really tried, Ms. Taylor. You know how secretive he is. He’s always got people watching his back, and if we get too close, we’ll get caught. It’s not just us. No one else can track him down either. Even in Cabinda, it takes a lot of work to get information about the Williams family. Now they’re overseas, and it’s even harder. Plus, it’s obvious he was being extra careful this time. Hardly anyone knew they even left Cabinda. That makes things a lot trickier for us.”

No matter what he said, Cynthia wasn’t interested in excuses. She grabbed a cup from the table and threw it hard onto the floor, shattering it. “Useless. All of you are useless.”

Patton flinched at her outburst and felt bitterness rising inside him. Working for her was a nightmare. Of all the people she could have set her sights on, she just had to pick the most impossible one.

Mr. Williams? Did she really think he was someone you could just follow around? Patton had seen what happened to the last guys who tried. Mr. Williams never let anyone invade his privacy. The few who survived were still stuck in bed.

Ms. Taylor never seemed to realize how tough her demands were. She just had to open her mouth and give orders, but it was his team who had to risk everything to make it happen.

Still, he kept all this to himself. He could only stand there and take her anger.

She wasn’t foolish enough to put all her hopes on those useless guys. She headed straight to her father. He’d spent years making connections in the Roberts family and his network was far bigger than hers. Maybe he could pull some strings and find out where Dennis and Camila were.

Cynthia found Nicholas Lee quickly. He’d always been on her side. After she laid out her reasoning, he agreed that having Camila out of the country was a good thing. If they could make sure she stayed there for good, the Williams family wouldn’t have any reason to keep blocking the marriage.

Nicholas’s face grew serious. “I understand. I’ll reach out to my contacts and see what I can find. Don’t worry.”

Hearing that, Cynthia felt a rush of excitement. She squeezed her father’s hand. “Dad, the Adams family is riding high with the Williams family backing them. Our only shot at joining Cabinda’s top families depends on me marrying Dennis. If he comes back and inherits the Collins family estate, my place in Cabinda’s social circle—and even across the country—will be set.”
