Dashiell said casually, "We're different, you and I. We're not cut from the same cloth, and we're just not meant to be. Better to make the call now than to struggle later on."
"Great! Who cares about you anyway? You don't even have any inheritance rights! You're nothing compared to your brother!"
Dashiell smirked, "Well, I don't exactly care about you either, Fiona."
He only started dating her because his brother, Phinies, suggested it. Their time together was okay, but he never expected things to be like this.
Dashiell was really glad he brought her out today.
Otherwise, how would he have seen her true colors so quickly?
After they left, Stephanie touched her nose and said, "Um... did I just mess up their engagement?"
Mr. Finnegan quickly chimed in, "What engagement? It was just a bad relationship! Don't worry, Dashiell is a smart guy; he'll appreciate what you did!"
"Really? He won't think I disrespected his fiancée, will he?"
"Absolutely not!" Maximus added.
"Well, that's a relief..."
Gracie said, "You can tell a lot about a person from the company they keep. Who you hang out with shapes who you become. Did you see the way Steph just treated her? She's acting just like President Ingram!"
"What are you talking about, Gracie?!"
"Steph, haven't you noticed? Your tone, your facial expressions, you really looked like President Ingram just now."
"Really?" Stephanie asked.
"Really!" Gracie answered.
"But I didn't imitate him..."
Ashley laughed, "Maybe it's unconscious. You've been around him a lot. People say couples start to look alike, but not all couples do. It's just that they've been together for so long that their behaviors, tones, expressions, etc., are influenced by each other. Over time, people start to think they look alike and that they have a 'couple look'."
He even willingly punished himself by downing three drinks and saying with a bitter smile, "I thought I was lucky and different from others. I felt like I found the right person but I didn't expect this. I've dampened everyone's mood. I hope you all don't take it to heart."
Mr. Finnegan quickly waved his hands, "We're good friends; we don't mind."
Stephanie also said, "Dashiell, as long as you don't blame me, it's alright."
"Blame you? I should be thanking you! It's just that this situation is a bit difficult. The engagement was a part of a business deal between the Dashiell and King families to develop a piece of land in the B City suburbs."
Gracie frowned, "So your engagement might be a bit complicated."
Dashiell gave a bitter smile, "That's why my brother Phinies might not want to break off this marriage alliance."
"Ah? So did I... cause trouble for you?"
"You don't need to worry about it."
"Um... in this cooperation between your family's company and the King family's company, is the King family providing capital or real estate?"
