As Xavier had already regained consciousness, it was much more appropriate for him to handle this matter personally.
However, Xavier did not comment much after reading the info.
Although he was the Chairman of the Foster Consortium and the head of the Fosters among the Four Great Clans, most of the company matters had been handed over to John in recent years.
As for the clan’s internal affairs, Old Master Foster was still alive. He was based in the south, but as a gesture of respect, Xavier would still ask the Old Master for advice.
Thus, he did not rule out the possibility that someone wanted to murder him for personal interest.
The only thing John could do was to send more people to investigate this incident.
Prior to this, he had transferred Xavier to St. Petersburg Hospital and assigned professional bodyguards to watch over the latter.
Despite the Fosters’ efforts to keep this incident a secret, they were in the capital and the accident happened in broad daylight. As a result, those with connections around the city soon got wind of this.
The Leiths, Garretts, and Grahams were no exception.
The three families sent members to visit Xavier. He might be able to decline other visitors, but not these people.
So, he met all of them.
The Grahams and the Fosters were never close to each other, so sending someone to visit him was only a formality.
Perhaps the Grahams wanted to pick up some news and confirm whether Xavier was as fine as they say.
After that, they went home.
However, the Garretts and the Leiths were different.
Due to Gideon and Joel’s friendship, the two families shared a close bond. As for the Garretts, one of Old Master Garrett’s brothers was married to a member of the Foster family. Although it had been several generations since the last marriage, both families were still relatives, and naturally, they cared for each other.
At the moment, Joseph Garrett was seated in the ward and observing Xavier, who was lying on the bed, with a worried look.
“Second Elder Brother Foster, I don’t think it was an accident. Are you sure you’re unable to find out the reason?”
Xavier shook his head.
“I have investigated it. The truck driver consumed alcohol in the morning and lost control while driving under the influence. That was why he hit my car. Regardless of the CCTV footage or his background check, I can’t find anything suspicious.”
A slight wrinkle appeared between Joseph’s eyebrows.
“Who on earth drinks in the morning? Doesn’t it seem weird to you?”
Xavier chuckled. “Perhaps that’s his habit? Who knows? Whatever it is, I’m very lucky to be alive and I’m content, so I’m not going to pursue this any further.”
Sensing his reluctance to talk about this subject, Joseph stopped asking questions.
A moment later, it was time for dinner and a hospital employee brought in Xavier’s meal.
Joseph then bade farewell to Xavier and left.
When he stepped out of the ward, he met Gideon and Nell at the doorway.
“Uncle, you’re here too!”
Nell greeted him with a smile and Joseph tickled Little Viemond who was in her arms. He smiled. “Yes, I’m here to visit him. Why don’t you wait for a while before seeing him? He’s having dinner now and it might not be convenient for him.”
Nell nodded.
Joseph added, “Have you been busy lately? Do pay us a visit when you are free. Your aunt misses you.”
Nell grinned. “We’ve been in the capital all this while. I really wish Auntie is with us, and she can look after the kids too.”
Joseph laughed. “Okay, I’ll let her know once I’m home.”
It was getting late and Joseph had other things to attend to, so he left after chatting with the couple briefly.
When Nell and Gideon entered the ward, Xavier had already finished eating.
Joel came over to the ward as soon as he got off from work, yet he did not bump into the couple earlier as he came up from the back door.
When Nell and Gideon came in, Joel stood up and beamed. “Second Elder Brother, Second Sis-in-law, you’re here.”
Yet, for some strange reason, a feeling of uneasiness grew within her.
She felt that she had forgotten about something.
Thus, she moped around all day and let her mind wander aimlessly.
Spencer Nolan was upset when he saw her in this state.
One day, he could not hold it back anymore and so, he asked her, “Emmy, we’ll leave this place, alright? Go back to Country R.”
Emilia studied him before a sparkle returned to her deadpan stare.
She shook her head. “I’m not going back.”
“Why not?”
Emilia questioned that too. Yes, why not?
Why was she reluctant to leave this place, even though she had already done whatever that was required?
Suddenly, an answer came to her.
Yes! It was that reason.
She looked at Spencer and pleaded with him in a submissive manner, “Big Brother Nolan, could you take me to Sis again, please?”
Taken aback, Spencer’s expression sank.
“Do you still miss her?”
His reaction was a mixture of disbelief and anger at her lack of pride.
“Stop disrespecting yourself! Don’t you see that she doesn’t care for you at all? She even hates you! The humiliation you received last time speaks volumes. Why humiliate yourself again?”
Emilia sat still and fixed her gaze on Spencer like a lost little child.
