Chapter 59 Waiting for you
RENEE
Disinterested in further conversation, addressed the staff, “Isn’t there another product endorsement available? I’d rather
switch.”
I had no desire to make those who harbored ill feelings towards in appear admirable by my own hands.
The staff hesitated, “Well, but it’s for a lesser–known video gaming player. The project isn’t as prestigious as this one. Miss Hudson, you are KM Group’s cooperative stylist, so we will d do our best to provide you with the best resources.”
I glanced at Alyssa to find her doing me but I remained calm, Lknew that she was probably thinking that only a fool would willingly diminish their own standing by taking the initiative to style a video game enthusiast’s appearance.
“Then I will change to that side,” I said irked at her dumbfounded expression.
Was she expecting me to beg her?
and
As I walked away, I turned back to her. “Miss Miguel, your face is losing collagen. You should’ve prepared better for your spokesperson role.”
It was widely known that she had undergone facial enhancements. While not explicitly labeled as plastic surgery, it was referred to as a micro facelift.
Publicly mentioning her cosmetic procedures was a direct hit to her pride.
I wasn’t the type to shame anyone for whatever they had done to their body but I refuse to be nice to anyone who was mean to
me!
“You stop right there! Renee!” Alyssa, infuriated, called out, “Does Mr. King know about your escapades? You don’t deserve his
favor at all.”
“Really? Perhaps, but my natural beauty is surely more appealing to him than yours.”
I didn’t even hesitate in my stride.
I was never one to attack someone’s looks, but I felt compelled to respond to Alyssa’s provocation.
As I left, I messaged Sarah, “I ran into Alyssa today. She was hostile for no reason, acting like a rabid dog.”
My next assignment was in the styling studio next door, for the “Nighthawk” series of computer products by KM Group. The spokesperson, a 16 or 17–year–old boy named Ivan James, lay on the sofa, his expression sullen.
“Miss Hudson, meet Ivan,” the staff introduced. “Ivan, this is Renee, your stylist for today.”
Despite my limited knowledge of e–sports, I could tell Ivan was nothing like the stereotype of an antisocial gamer.
His features were striking, his eyes captivating, and he exuded a mix of adolescent vigor and the mischievousness of a child.
Intriguingly, he bore a slight resemblance to Marcelo.
“Hello,“I greeted.
Ivan, lifting his eyes to eyes, asked bluntly, “My family thinks e–sports isn’t a proper career. What do you think?”
Ivan wore such a sulky expression, as if he would have a falling–out with me the moment I agreed.
Was this child seeking validation because he faced opposition at home?
responded objectively, “Spending all day gaming isn’t ideal. But reaching international competitions and winning honors brings pride to your country.”

“Then I bring pride to my country. “Ivan seemed pleased with my swer. “You can do my makeup.”
I sensed an odd attitude from him but couldn’t pinpoint it.
After completing my work, I checked my phone for Sarah’s response to my earlier message.
Her reply hinted at deeper issues. “It’s probably not for no reason, Alyssa has been seen with your husband at various events and has socialized with Jason and others privately.”
I recalled Alyssa being one of the women near Marcelo at the Dove island Club.
I texted back, “She likes Marcelo?”
Sarah replied, “Maybe it’s not just about liking your husband, but also about envying you. She used to mimic you in middle school, remember?”
I had completely forgotten.
I had no impression of it at all.
I typed, “No wonder I feel like I’m looking in a distorting mirror when I see her.”
Sarah sent a laughing emoji as a reply to my texts.
I always try to be nice though but I will never let anyone use my character against me.
If someone is mean to me for no reason. I’ll give them the same energy.

“Mr. King, your wife is in the design department on the fifth floor. Her work is almost done.” Luke expected Marcelo to summon Renee, yet he received no response from him.
He glanced up and noticed Marcelo examining a dark green tie with a pattern.
“Sir, you’ve been studying this tie for two days. What’s so special about it?“Luke’s curiosity was piqued. This tie didn’t seem to fit Marcelo’s usual style.
Marcelo shifted his gaze from the hand–embroidered word “Moore” on the tie and looked at Luke. “Do you think this tie suits me?”
Luke remained silent.
Could it possibly suit him?
He pondered for a moment. Was Marcelo referring to the color?
Half an hour later, Luke was summoned to Marcelo’s office once more.
“Where is she?” Marcelo inquired.
Who exactly was he talking about?
Luke was momentarily baffled by the abrupt question.
Fortunately, he quickly regained his composure and said awkwardly, “Mrs. King… She left ten minutes ago.”
Marcelo suddenly looked up, his piercing gaze unnerving Luke.
But he had made no request for her to come!
Luke had sought his permission, yet Marcelo hadn’t asked for her to stay.

Luke kept his grievances to himself. As a diligent subordinate, he didn’t feel it was his place to complain. He promptly said, ‘ She’s probably just gone downstairs. I’ll check!”
Luckily, Luke found Renee just outside the KM Group’s building.
“What’s the matter, Luke?” Seeing him rushing over, Renee was slightly taken aback.
Relieved to have caught up with her, Luke said, “Mrs. King, why don’t you go upstairs for a bit?”
“Does he want to see me?” Renee asked.
Luke nodded without a moment’s hesitation. “Yes, he wants to discuss an important matter with you.”
But it wasn’t anything serious.
Marcelo had merely asked him to invite her upstairs for a moment.
“Mrs. King, this way please.” Luke escorted her to the president’s VIP elevator. They encountered no one else.
“Luke, I have a question for you.”
“What would you like to know, Mrs. King?”
“Is your boss acquainted with Alyssa Miguel?” Renee had heard from Alyssa herself that she had known Marcelo since they were children and that they were quite close.
“Alyssa?” Luke pondered before replying, “The Miguel’s family’s daughter? They once had dinner together.”
The dinner was hosted by Jason and Damian.
Alyssa had come on her own.
Renee scoffed.
Their marriage was new, yet already a troublesome woman had appeared!
Sensing Renee’s discomfort, Luke quickly tried to clarify, “Mrs. King, please don’t misunderstand. Miss Miguel isn’t close to our boss. She…”
“Ding–dong!”
