"I have a feeling Renee doesn't like you," Susanna remarked, her words hanging in the air.
Daniel was momentarily rendered speechless by Susanna's observation. The surname "Lambert" was going to make it even more challenging to win Renee’s favor.
Renee, with her sharp intellect, likely immediately connected him to Vivian. However, Renee’s professionalism ensured that her reservations didn't affect her interactions with Susanna, a quality that Daniel admired even more.
But there was an unfortunate truth that Daniel had to confront.
Renee wasn't his sister.
Despite Susanna's comment about Renee resembling his grandmother, Daniel maintained a facade of indifference while secretly investigating Renee.
The initial shock he experienced upon seeing her photo was followed by disappointment.
The evidence didn't align with his hopes.
His sister, Elsie Lambert, had disappeared in Glostin, yet thorough investigations revealed that Renee had been born and raised in this town, a place thousands of kilometers away from Glostin.
It was an undeniable fact: Renee couldn't be Elsie.
*********
After grabbing a meal from the cafeteria, Renee made her way back to the dorm, where she planned to dine with Sarah.
“Marvin is still downstairs, and many students are watching him," Renee informed Sarah as she entered their room.
Sarah’s brows furrowed, and she walked over to the window to check on the situation.
Her gaze settled on a man standing beneath the plum tree in the corner, his unblinking eyes fixed on the exit of the alumni dormitory. He seemed like a clumsy hunter, eagerly awaiting his prey. Suddenly, as if sensing something, the man below looked up.
Startled, Sarah quickly stepped back, concealing herself.
After a tense moment, she cautiously peered outside again; Marvin had returned to his vigil, seemingly unaware of her presence.
Relieved that she hadn't been spotted, Sarah let out a sigh.
Little did she know that as soon as she had returned to her room, Marvin once again raised his gaze, his eyes locking onto the balcony where she had just been.
As night descended, an eerie tension hung in the air.
Renee’s phone rang unexpectedly, and the voice on the other end was from the security office. "Miss Hudson, we've encountered a suspicious individual, who claims to be 'Marvin', in the dormitory area. He insists on seeing you. Are you familiar with this person?"
A moment of hesitation hung in the air before Renee finally responded, "Yes, I know him." Puzzlement washed over her.
Why would Marvin be at the security office?
She rushed to the balcony, hoping to catch a glimpse of him, but he had vanished from her sight. The voice on the phone continued, "He's not a member of the faculty and shouldn't be loitering around the campus. Moreover, his presence is causing quite a distraction for the students, and he refuses to leave despite our efforts. What would you like us to do?"
Understanding the situation, Renee sighed, feeling apologetic. "I'm sorry for the trouble. I'll arrange for his family to come and pick him up."
After ending the call, Renee informed Sarah of the situation and requested her to go to the security office to handle Marvin.
After all, Sarah was the one Marvin wanted to see.
However, Sarah’s reaction was devoid of expression, except for one overwhelming sentiment: incredulity.
Even within the confines of a university dormitory, she couldn't escape Marvin's presence. "Should I accompany you?" Renee asked, her concern evident in her voice.
Why would he say those affectionate words out of the blue?
Hee retreat was halted by the wall, leaving her with no escape as Marcelo closed the distance between them in an instant.
Without giving her a chance to resist, a passionate kiss descended upon her.
Initially, his anger had been directed towards Howard.
However, during his time at the hospital, his thoughts had been consumed by the information he had uncovered about Renee’s childhood.
He had an overwhelming desire to see her, to touch her, to assure himself of her safety and find peace with him.
As soon as Jessica woke up and her condition stabilized, Marcelo wasted no time and rushed over to Renee’s location.
The cool breeze of the spring night wafted in through the door as he gently lifted Renee off the floor, playfully tossing her upward before catching her by the hips.
Their lips met in a passionate kiss again as he carried her toward the door, whispering her name almost inaudibly.
“Renee...Renee...”
Thank goodness she navigated through hee childhood hardships despite all the mistreatment she received from the Hudsons, Marcelo was glad that they met.
With a decisive slam, the door shut, isolating the inside from the outside.
Renee frowned. "But Sarah is still..."
“Do you want passersby to see us being intimate?" Marcelo teased.
