Marvin's eyes narrowed.
“I recently ran into Mr. Rollins. If you don't release her, I will call him immediately," Renee declared.
“Do you think Quincy can intimidate me?" Marvin asked, nonchalantly.
Renee shook her head. "It's not about intimidation. But if Sarah is troubled, I'll ensure you face the same."
Sarah, with effort, managed to loosen his grip.
Though healthier now, Sarah’s childhood frailty still made her appear delicate, and it seemed wrong to use force against her.
She hissed, "Marvin, are you in your right mind? If so, please leave. If not, I'll have Vance come for you."
Marvin's gaze lingered on Sarah, wordless, seemingly accusing her of abandoning him tonight. His behavior had been erratic over the past month, often displaying a sense of grievance towards Sarah as if she were the one who put him in that situation.
It was hard to reconcile this side of Marvin with the decisive, ruthless heir of the Hill family. He seemed more like a dejected wolfhound.
“Sarah, are you avoiding me?" Marvin inquired.
“Marvin, please go home."
“We really should suggest the university secure the dormitory area gates," Renee remarked as she walked back with Sarah.
Leaving them open at night could invite unwanted intruders.
Sarah had already messaged Vance to fetch Marvin. His behavior was his own responsibility. "Renee, won't you ask about Marvin and me?"
“If you feel like sharing, you will," Renee replied.
As a supportive friend, she chose not to pry into Sarah’s personal affairs.
“But..." Pondering Marvin's actions, Renee posed a question. "Is he really alright mentally?"
His reactions, especially when Quincy was mentioned, seemed too lucid for someone who was not in his right mind.
Yet, if he were well, he wouldn't have acquiesced to Sarah so readily.
“I'm not certain," Sarah admitted. "This isn't the first time he's kissed me like that."
Renee was taken aback. This was big revelation indeed.
Sarah, visibly frustrated, continued, "I assumed his actions were due to his mental state, so I didn't confront him, but..."
“But what?" Renee sensed there was more.
“The other day, he walked in on me showering, and well...he got a boner."
“Marvin...he got a boner?!" Renee stopped short and turned to look at Sarah, utterly dumbfounded. "It seems unusual that he kissed you like that. No, actually, think about it. Have you ever heard of a mentally challenged person just randomly kissing someone?"
Sarah quickly locked the door behind them. Now that Renee mentioned it, she realized just how gullible she had been.
She had always considered Marvin as her savior. After his so-called breakdown and subsequent show of weakness, she had foolishly lowered her guard around him.
“Do you think Marvin...Do you think he fancies you?" Renee voiced out her speculations.
Marvin's expression turned cold. Instead of heading to the university's main gates, he turned in a different direction.
Shrouded in the darkness of the night, a Pagani was parked in the corner of the street that wasn't illuminated by a single lamppost.
Marvin knocked on the driver's side window of the car, and the window slowly rolled down. "Done pretending?" Marcelo quipped.
Marvin scoffed and rolled his eyes. "And you? You're not pretending to be disabled anymore, are you? Besides, I wasn't completely pretending."
Marcelo nodded in acquiescence before peering at Marvin. "To think that you went so far as to hire a hypnotist to alter your memory and make your act all the more convincing...All for a woman? The Hill family is doomed."
Marcelo’s words did not surprise Marvin. If anyone could run a thorough investigation, it would be Marcelo.
Marvin had indeed considered pretending at first, but Sarah was a sharp and intelligent woman. If he went that route, he would be risking discovery in the first few days. On the other hand, the effects of hypnotism do not last forever; they would diminish over time. Case in point, the effects wore off tonight.
Technically speaking, he had never put up an act in front of Sarah.
He just adopted a few cunning tactics.
“Why is our Mr. King so cranky?" Marvin teased. "Did your woman dump you or something?"
Marcelo narrowed his eyes. "Renee and I are legally married."
There was no such thing as getting dumped when they were legally bound to each other.
Marcelo gave Marvin a sideways glance and raised an eyebrow sardonically, as if to say that someone like him who resorted to such trickery would never understand the sanctity of marriage.
Marvin understood the unspoken message perfectly, and he scoffed in indignation. This annoying bastard!
