Secret Wife Real Billionaire (by Ela) novel Chapter 283

Deep down, Catherine already knew the answer.

Having struggled in the entertainment industry for years, she had figured out that Rocco was trying to win Renee over.

“My dear daughter, don't overthink it. I'm here for you!" Grace comforted her, stroking her head.

Catherine was her only child, and she would ensure only the best for her.

“Mom, should I go to the hospital for a check-up? I'm worried that the fall might have hurt the baby," Catherine asked in concern. She thought it was better to be safe than sorry.

“No need to go to the hospital; it will be fine," Grace said confidently.

“Huh? Why?" Catherine asked, surprised by the conviction in Grace’s voice.

Grace glanced at Catherine’s stomach.

She was sure nothing would happen to the baby because there was no baby inside Catherine’s stomach!

The fake pregnancy was just a temporary measure to placate Catherine and ensure that the King family wouldn't throw her out.

Grace couldn't explain the reason behind her assurance, and luckily, Catherine decided not to pursue the conversation further.

Catherine stroked her flat belly contentedly, waiting for the baby bump to appear in two months.

Grace’s gaze grew darker and more sinister as she watched Renee’s departing figure.

She had been racking her brain about how to resolve the issue of Catherine’s fake pregnancy.

Renee’s push had given her an idea!

Once outside, Rocco said gently, "Renee, you were indeed wrong in this matter, but I'm willing to help you. As your father, I care about you."

Renee sneered inwardly.

Such bullshit! She wasn't wrong.

Obviously, he was not trying to help her.

Instead, he was probably waiting for her to get attacked so that he could swoop in and play the hero!

“I heard Marcelo’s legs have healed." Rocco changed the subject, revealing his real intention. "That's good news! We should have a family reunion dinner sometime."

Now Renee saw through it all.

Rocco was showing concern just to curry favor with Marcelo!

“I’m leaving; you can head back from here," Renee interrupted Rocco, abruptly.

She had naively believed that Rocco was the only person in that family who might still have some affection for her.

It turned out to be a joke!

She suddenly felt all her strength drain away.

After walking away from the villa and ensuring the Hudsons couldn't see her anymore, she squatted on the curb, hugging her knees, and rested her chin on her arms.

Her eyelashes trembled like the wings of a butterfly; her heart was so weary it felt like it was breaking into two.

Something had changed irrevocably today.

They could never take back the hurtful words.

Renee felt utterly alone in the world, abandoned first by her lover and then by her family.

Her heart ached with every breath, each one filled with pain.

If it started to rain right now, she would be like the mistreated heroine in a movie!

After God knows how long, Renee inadvertently lifted her eyes up a little bit and noticed a wheelchair in her peripheral vision.

A pair of distinctly masculine feet were comfortably positioned on the footrest of the wheelchair.

Renee’s heart leapt, and she abruptly looked up.

“I'm on my way out myself; you're welcome to join me," Renee suggested.

The man smiled in appreciation and began to follow her in his wheelchair.

“You looked troubled earlier. Something wrong? Oh, I'm Kristopher Wright, by the way."

“Nice to meet you, Mr. Wright. I'm an Hudson," Renee replied, skirting around his question.

As she turned away, Kristopher's gaze shifted coldly toward the Hudsons' house.

“Miss Hudson, aren't you going to tell me your first name?"

His demeanor remained casual, disarming in its nonchalance.

Renee gave a resigned smile and said, "It's Renee. Renee Hudson."

“Renee, that's a lovely name," Kristopher complimented.

“Thank you, Mr. Wright. You have a nice name, too." She returned the compliment.

“Really?" Kristopher's eyes deepened as he looked at her. "I once met a lovely girl who also complimented my name."

His words were filled with tenderness, yet somehow...they were tinged with a hint of sadness. After exiting the estate neighborhood, they went their separate ways.

Renee only thought of something after getting into her car. Kristopher seemed lost. Why hadn't he just called property management for help?

Maybe he had forgotten about this option.

The moment Renee was out of sight, Kristopher's pleasant demeanor disappeared.

Looking even paler, he sat motionless in his wheelchair, drawing the guards' attention. But they dared not approach him.

Kristopher took out his phone and made a call.

“Did you think I would not survive the surgery? Is that why you didn't take good care of her for me, huh?"

His voice resembled an eerie tolling bell from the underworld.
